America's Third War: Fighting Drug Cartels in Guatemala

...

The murder rate in Guatemala is already double that of Mexico, where more than 10,000 drug-related murders have taken place this year.

Now there is evidence that one of Mexico’s most vicious cartels, the Zetas, are setting up bases in Guatemala as they come under increasing pressure from Felipe Calderon’s government. The Zetas have set up training camps and are trying to intimidate Guatemalan cartels. So far they’ve forced at least one Guatemalan drug family to leave the country.

“When you have drug traffickers afraid of other drug traffickers, you know its getting pretty bad,” U.S. Ambassador Stephen McFarland told Fox News at the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala City.

Earlier this year one of the cartels sent a message to Guatemalans by leaving several decapitated heads on the steps of Parliament.

The Zetas are in a vicious war with Mexico’s Gulf Cartel and are trying to cut out the middle man as they fights for trafficking routes.

Guatemala has long served as one of the main transit points for cocaine into the U.S. The drug arrives by sea from Colombia and Ecuador and then travels by land through Mexico into America. Last year, between 285 and 350 metric tons of cocaine transited Guatemala.

“Just about all of the drugs going through Mexico into the United States go through Guatemala,” McFarland explained.

But the $13- to $25-billion drug trade amounts to more money than the combined defense budgets of all the Latin American countries.

Maybe U.S. officials will soon realize what we already know!

Chavez and Obama will not be satisfied until all of Latin America is destabilized — and communized. There is a Marxist grand design in all of this.

Oh yes indeed...not to mention the military equipment and armament being delivered there by their "friends" in Iran and Russia.

When we get the presidency in 2012, the order of business should be:

1. Slam the southern border shut with guns and guarded walls.
2. Build military bases along the border to defend against enemy #1 - MEXICO. Iraq is harmless by comparison.
3. Publicize (using signage and ads) throughout Mexico that trespassers will be killed.
4. REMOVE ALL TAXPAYER FUNDED SPANISH SIGNAGE IN THE US.
5. Round up and deport illegals by the millions. No mercy, no exceptions, no “extenuating circumstances”. Born here to an illegal also = illegal. GTFO.

I live in Honduras much of the time. The good people there have no doubt about the Obama-Chavez Grand Design. Stunning as it may be, even AA meetings are disrupted by virulent Marxists. We are underestimating Obama’s doctrinaire Marxism at our own risk.

Well then you are up close to what is going on. It is definately more than amazing our country still is very much in the dark on what is going on on the International scene...let alone our neighbors to the south.

Obama is doing nothing but encouraging even that on our Mexican border...where no doubt there is a defined war...so I have no hope he will do more than what is assisting our southern neighbors with their agendas...and is doing just that.

What are the people saying about this there? Are any truly bucking this?

The answer to your question is that the Hondurans are a very kindly and unassuming people. So, as much as they resent the Obama-Chavez onslaught, their tendency is to just remain calm and hope it will pass. Unfortunately, it will not. And when the Obama-Chavez forces make their final push, there will be blood in the streets. Hondurans love their democracy.

Marxists always bring “blood to the streets”. I feel then for the Hondurans....as you are correct...this will not pass.

I have acquaintances from Brazil who come home every Christmas....they have mentioned that in Brazil they have more social freedoms than the United States and had to be warned about what they say here for the Polictically correct issues. However politically of course they have not had the freedoms we do..but then that’s now changing for us as well.

And a mile-wide minefield. Seriously.
