Crunch time: Mike Pence voting no on the tax cuts deal
Hotair ^ | 12/14/10 | Allahpundit

This is the first time I’ve thought the whole deal really might collapse in the House.

“At the end of the day, I’ve just come to the conclusion: the American people did not vote for more stimulus,” Pence said on conservative talker Sean Hannity’s radio show. “Therefore, I will not vote for this tax deal when it comes to the floor of the House of Representatives.”

Pence joins the ranks of conservatives, many of whom have ties to the Tea Party movement, who have opposed the deal. The Indiana Republican echoed their arguments against the bill; Pence said the 13-month extension of unemployment benefits would only bloat the deficit, and that extending the tax rates for only two years wouldn’t provide adequate certainty in the markets.

Principled man.

Indeed.

Imagine what a better deal we'll get on Jan 5. I'll wait and have things made retroactive. I think most people would - especially those who can do the most to help the economy improve [those with money to do something with.] jmho

He needs to be the leader of the Republican party. Not the guy who goes to strip joints.

They should forget a two-year extension and push for making the current rates permanent. Including the current 0% rate on estates.

Pence and DeMint seem to be among the few in congress that get it. It is no longer the so called "compromise" , a bad deal that only temporarily extended existing tax rates for 2 years in exchange for a 13 month extension of the 99 week max unemployment payment and an increase in the estate tax.

THE DEAL HAS CHANGED!

It has become another stimulus with over 70 pork items added including ethanol subsidies.

Clinton said the deal would be worse for dems in January...so why are so called conservatives trying to help them get it done now?

Yes, tax rates would rise in January but then you simply make it retroactive (like clinton did with his tax INCREASE years ago) and put a check in the mail for extra that was withheld.

When Americans get their first paychecks in January, you’re going to see massive anger the likes of which haven’t been seen since the 1970s. If this bill is scuttled in the House, we lose the current tax rates starting on Jan 1.

Pray. Store food. Reload.

Congressman Pence… please either strong arm or expose the other members.

This isn’t just your vote…

It’s our vote, our country.

Love Pence, always right, charming too. I saw rep. Flake on Greta’s show this week and I was so impressed. Not only with what he said but the manner in which he said it.

I have been told we will lose them January 1 anyways. The IRS schedules are already published and would take a couple of months to change.

Of course you can make the tax structure retroactive and that’s exactly what should occur....

This is a Pro-Pence thread. All Anti-Pence trolls go away.

Did I get that right?

The psychological impact of those first few paychecks will be worth in alone.

Especially for the 10%'ers becoming 15%'ers.

If they were having $100 withheld it will turn to $150 in one pay-period.

It’s not their scare tactics. These are OUR fodder for seeding revolutionary thought among Conservatives. Like the shirt says, “Our Forefathers would be shooting by now.”
