Posted on 12/15/2010 7:51:18 AM PST by SeekAndFind
You know it's a bad sign when the outgoing California governor announces a fiscal emergency and everyone ignores him.
Now incoming governor Jerry Brown has realized how screwed the state is and he's announcing his own budget emergency, according to the LAT.
He said last night: "I'm going to try to get the budget agreements done within about 60 days. I don't think we have a lot of time to waste... It will be a very tough budget, but it will be transparent... We've been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I'm shocked."
Hear that, last year's $20 billion budget cuts amounted to living in fantasy land.
Brown implied he would apply major cuts to the education system and other programs. He also refused to rule out new taxes. And it's got to add up to at least $29 billion in cuts.

Couple-a tokes and ole Jerry will take care of the problem...not to worry
Shazzam! You mean we really gotta pay for all this stuff?
A tad slow on the uptake,aren’t we,Jerry???
Hey Gov. Moonbeam, how else do you think you were elected?
Also, See here :
TITLE : Brown wants to fast-track budget agreement within 60 days
At a forum in L.A., the incoming governor says the fiscal mess is ‘much worse’ than he thought; he does not say whether his plan would contain only spending cuts or include new taxes.
Don’t worry! Only the evil rich people will pay the increased taxes! /s
What is it with the Democrats? They run for office saying "This place is a mess! Get me in there! I can fix it!" and when they get in there they say "Whoa! This is too much. I can't do this."
Obama is the poster boy for this, but he's not alone.
The bottomline is that government intrusion is a bottomless pit of trouble. The only way to "fix" it is to do a whole lot less. But they try to fix the hole by digging deeper.
Well, at least he has the cut spending part right.
Ending entitlement programs for illegal immigrants and closing the border will also do wonders. As far as education cuts go, getting the illegal aliens out of the system is gonna have to be the first thing to get the axe. Sorry illegals, the gravy train is over...
Think Jerry has the stones to do that??
ARNOLD!!!!! What the heck have you done for eight years? I thought he was going to be really good when he first started and then just petered out very quickly.
Yeah, Moonbeam, millions of ordinary Americans who, unlike you, have their heads screwed on, have known this for years. We’ve been keeping it a secret just so we could see your reaction when you figured it out. Pffft.
He may have a tough time getting bailed out by the new congress....
RE: Only the evil rich people will pay the increased taxes! /s
I fully expect California to file for bankrupcy in the near future.
They will then come to Washington DC begging for a bailout to prevent an EU-like implosion (remember, California’s economy is much bigger than Greece or Ireland ).
In which case EVERYONE PAYS !! (That means tax payers of other states ).
Arnold ran as a conservative and governed as a liberal ... that’s what happened.
It’s your problem now, Jerry.
Your party did this.
You must now either act like an adult and solve it in a serious way or continue to kick the can down the road, only the end of the road is a cliff..................
how much are all them illegal immagrants costing ya jerry?
Even I hate the budget forecasts for the State and knew how awful it is.
At some point, we have to realize that Democrats are liars and thieves. ALL OF THEM! The ones who you think are OK, do not call out the criminals, so they are just as guilty.
Woah, there is gambling in this casino!
police, fire and scrool unions and their salaries and pensions
have decimated the state.
RE: ARNOLD!!!!! What the heck have you done for eight years?
When Gray Davis was recalled and several people came out to run for California governor, I thought that the one with the best policy proposals was from (now Congressman) Tom McClintock.
Unfortunately, the Governator’s star power overwhelmed McClintock. The Golden State (no more ) has suffered the consequences ever since.
In fact, Moonbeam's unedited quote was, "We've been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I'm shocked. Dude."
I meant, I HAVE the budget forecasts. If I knew how to post Excel spreadsheets, I would.
Arnold’s proposals were voted down by the stupid people who bought the union ads, that’s when he folded and went along with the dems.
Good grief- where the hell has he been living for the last eight years? I hope for the people of California he’s developed some brass over the years.
Some conservative pundits thought Jerry Brown was the only one capable of fixing California. The Democrat legislature wouldn’t have cooperated with Meg Whitman, but Jerry can work the party from within. It sounds plausible, but I’m not holding my breath. If Jerry can reign in California so that the rest of us don’t have to bail it out, more power to him.
His election was all about his fame and name. People bought into the Terminator and thought he was going to solve CA’s problems, he had no experience or background. He was not a Reagan. who gave thoughtful conservative answers to questions. He was Ah-nold, the actor.
Besides that...he’s married to a Kennedy.
RE: Even I hate the budget forecasts for the State and knew how awful it is.
BTW, how did the economy and budget of OAKLAND ( Jerry Brown’s city ) do when he was Mayor ?
The policies put in place in Oakland could be a precursor of what California expects under Brown.
He will install an “exit tax.” If ya wanna get out, ya have to pay!
A State can not file under Chapter 9.
Pigs, pigs flying outside my window.
RE: If Jerry can reign in California so that the rest of us dont have to bail it out, more power to him.
How did he do as mayor of Oakland?
And Jerry's the Queen of Hearts.
Now, CA taxpayer, how would you like to have your head hacked off?
RE: A State can not file under Chapter 9.
What about DEFAULTING on their debts and then begging the rest of the 49 states to rescue them?
Yeah, Jerry. We’re so far beyond hosed, we’ve decided to look to you to get back to hosed. We can’t even catch a bus back to hosed.
RE: He will install an exit tax. If ya wanna get out, ya have to pay!
FROM HOTEL CALIFORNIA : “You can check out anytime you like, but YOU CAN NEVER LEAVE” ( air guitar ...)
Yes, but those pigs are just flying by on the way to DC where they will demand more food from our troughs.
Even the FR knitting club went for Arnold. I still remember them chuckling about McClintock's crazy eye.
Not this site's proudest moment.
Arnold NEVER ran as a conservative. Never. He made it crystal clear he was a social liberal.
At some point, we have to realize that all Democrats and most Republicans are liars and thieves.
There, that's fixed......
But watch - they'll attempt to balance the budget by lawing off police & firemen & closing libraries.
Illegals will come out of any budget fight completely unscathed.
“California: Jerry Brown Is “Much Worse Than We Thought — We’ve Been Living In Fantasy Land”
There, fixed that.
Arnold didn't fold. He was touting his big-spending enviro-whacko agenda before he was even elected
(if you read the fine print of his policy proposals as opposed to the Hollywood headlines.)
And his proposals wouldn't have done anything to reduce spending or curb the deficit.
They were a fraud just like he is.
State Legislature: “What a surprise this is. We had no idea. No one warned us.” /s
