Jerry Brown: California Budget Is "Much Worse Than I Thought -- We've Been Living In Fantasy Land"

You know it's a bad sign when the outgoing California governor announces a fiscal emergency and everyone ignores him.

Now incoming governor Jerry Brown has realized how screwed the state is and he's announcing his own budget emergency, according to the LAT.

He said last night: "I'm going to try to get the budget agreements done within about 60 days. I don't think we have a lot of time to waste... It will be a very tough budget, but it will be transparent... We've been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I'm shocked."

Hear that, last year's $20 billion budget cuts amounted to living in fantasy land.

Brown implied he would apply major cuts to the education system and other programs. He also refused to rule out new taxes. And it's got to add up to at least $29 billion in cuts.

RE: ARNOLD!!!!! What the heck have you done for eight years?

When Gray Davis was recalled and several people came out to run for California governor, I thought that the one with the best policy proposals was from (now Congressman) Tom McClintock.

Unfortunately, the Governator’s star power overwhelmed McClintock. The Golden State (no more ) has suffered the consequences ever since.

Fantasy Land...All I can say is..NO FRIGGIN KIDDING!!!!

Those of us stuck here have been saying this for years. Does anyone expect anything different when this state has been run by Dems for years??. This should be fun to watch, damn shame I'll have to go through it.

Couple-a tokes and ole Jerry will take care of the problem...not to worry

In fact, Moonbeam's unedited quote was, "We've been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I'm shocked. Dude."

Arnold’s proposals were voted down by the stupid people who bought the union ads, that’s when he folded and went along with the dems.

Good grief- where the hell has he been living for the last eight years? I hope for the people of California he’s developed some brass over the years.

Some conservative pundits thought Jerry Brown was the only one capable of fixing California. The Democrat legislature wouldn’t have cooperated with Meg Whitman, but Jerry can work the party from within. It sounds plausible, but I’m not holding my breath. If Jerry can reign in California so that the rest of us don’t have to bail it out, more power to him.

His election was all about his fame and name. People bought into the Terminator and thought he was going to solve CA’s problems, he had no experience or background. He was not a Reagan. who gave thoughtful conservative answers to questions. He was Ah-nold, the actor.
Besides that...he’s married to a Kennedy.

RE: Even I hate the budget forecasts for the State and knew how awful it is.

BTW, how did the economy and budget of OAKLAND ( Jerry Brown’s city ) do when he was Mayor ?

The policies put in place in Oakland could be a precursor of what California expects under Brown.

I fully expect California to file for bankrupcy in the near future.

A State can not file under Chapter 9.

And Jerry's the Queen of Hearts.

Now, CA taxpayer, how would you like to have your head hacked off?

RE: A State can not file under Chapter 9.

What about DEFAULTING on their debts and then begging the rest of the 49 states to rescue them?
