Jerry Brown: California Budget Is "Much Worse Than I Thought -- We've Been Living In Fantasy Land"
Business Insider ^ | 12/15/2010 | Gus Lubin

You know it's a bad sign when the outgoing California governor announces a fiscal emergency and everyone ignores him.

Now incoming governor Jerry Brown has realized how screwed the state is and he's announcing his own budget emergency, according to the LAT.

He said last night: "I'm going to try to get the budget agreements done within about 60 days. I don't think we have a lot of time to waste... It will be a very tough budget, but it will be transparent... We've been living in fantasy land. It is much worse than I thought. I'm shocked."

Hear that, last year's $20 billion budget cuts amounted to living in fantasy land.

Brown implied he would apply major cuts to the education system and other programs. He also refused to rule out new taxes. And it's got to add up to at least $29 billion in cuts.

Hey Gov. Moonbeam, how else do you think you were elected?

I guess he wasn't paying attention.

What is it with the Democrats? They run for office saying "This place is a mess! Get me in there! I can fix it!" and when they get in there they say "Whoa! This is too much. I can't do this."

Obama is the poster boy for this, but he's not alone.

The bottomline is that government intrusion is a bottomless pit of trouble. The only way to "fix" it is to do a whole lot less. But they try to fix the hole by digging deeper.

Well, at least he has the cut spending part right.

Ending entitlement programs for illegal immigrants and closing the border will also do wonders. As far as education cuts go, getting the illegal aliens out of the system is gonna have to be the first thing to get the axe. Sorry illegals, the gravy train is over...

Think Jerry has the stones to do that??

Me either.

Yeah, Moonbeam, millions of ordinary Americans who, unlike you, have their heads screwed on, have known this for years. We’ve been keeping it a secret just so we could see your reaction when you figured it out. Pffft.

RE: Only the evil rich people will pay the increased taxes! /s

I fully expect California to file for bankrupcy in the near future.

They will then come to Washington DC begging for a bailout to prevent an EU-like implosion (remember, California’s economy is much bigger than Greece or Ireland ).

In which case EVERYONE PAYS !! (That means tax payers of other states ).

It’s your problem now, Jerry.
Your party did this.
You must now either act like an adult and solve it in a serious way or continue to kick the can down the road, only the end of the road is a cliff..................

Pure BS.

Even I hate the budget forecasts for the State and knew how awful it is.

At some point, we have to realize that Democrats are liars and thieves. ALL OF THEM! The ones who you think are OK, do not call out the criminals, so they are just as guilty.
