19 FReepers, lurkers, friends and family along with 5 Vets from WWII to Iraq attended the DC Chapters 2010 Christmas Party.
After a week of strong winds and temps hovering in the low 30s, the wind calmed and temps rose into the 40s, we gathered last Saturday at Lurker Bills house. Note, Lurker Bill is a REAL lurker, he does not have a screen name. L. Bill is a regular at Walter Reed, bring a ton of signs, flags, banners and good music. During the winter he brings a generator to run the propane heaters blower. And then gets up early to join us at Olney to FReep the Quakers. L. Bill is also a Soldiers Angel. For Trooprallys sons first deployment to Iraq, L. Bills package beat our sons wifes package to him.
So a to Lurker Bill, his wife and their daughter for opening up their house and all they do for us FReepers and our troops.
Our Vets were a mixed bag spanning 4 major wars. Glenn, USMC, was on Iwo Jima. Dave, Army, was in the Pacific preparing to invade Japan when the bombs were dropped. He counts his blessings very day that the U.S. did not have to invade Japan. Halsey, USMC, is a Korean War Vet. Carl is a Vietnam Vet. And Chad, Army and a FReeper, was in Iraq.
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS: BufordP was the pool king. Sensei Ern was the Wii master. 3 of Sarah Palins recent book for the White Elephant Gift Steal game received the biggest laugh. Lots of real good food and dessert. Blueberry Pie (inside joke). Army/Navy-Marine Game rivalry.
A lively discussion ensued when it was discovered that one of the attendees was a TSA agent. Lots of jokes, some TSA tales.
Pictures from the Christmas Party.

And the BufordP!
And a MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL from the DC Chapter
PS - We will be out at Walter Reed on Friday Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Join us.

What a fine group of patriots!
The pic of you all praying made my screen go blurry.
Merry Christmas and Happy New year to the DC Chapter. Thank you for sharing this cheer with us. God Bless you all for your WRAMC duty.
Great job you guys! Congrats on another fruitful year.
Mrs. Taxman and I sure would have liked to attend — looks like everyone had a great time.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you.
I’m in the Washington Center Burn Unit. The food look good.
Man. I heartily wish I could have been there for the party...you folks are such a great bunch to hang around with!
A Merry Christmas to ALL of you, and thanks for all you do.
Regards,
rlmorel
I do believe that my invitation got lost in the mail. I hope that all of you had a very good time there without me. That’s okay, just never mind that I had to sit here in the snow and freezing cold without fellowship of a single soul while all of you enjoyed good company, good food, and good fun. I’m sure nobody gave me a single thought. But that’s okay. I’ll be fine, even if nobody loves me. I think I’ll go to the garden now and eat worms. I hope all of you will have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS (without me) WAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...
MERRY CHRISTMAS, Girlfriend. Hugs.
What are you doing in the burn unit?
Yes, what ARE you doing in the burn unit? Prayers.
what fun! thanks for pix & report. I had a wonderful time with you all the year I was able to attend. The future might be better for more trips east for me(but not the weather, apparently)
God Bless & merry Christmas to all the DC patriots!
Merry Christmas to all of you wonderful DC area patriots!
Merry Christmas to you too, Nana. I’m sorry you didn’t get invited to the DC party. May the ghost of Sen. Byrd visit them all :-)
Had a great time with everyone. Thanks Lurker Bill and Mrs. Lurker Bill for opening your home to us.
Thanks to all of you for all that you do...
I wish that I were in the area and able to join you this year.
It is nice to see that there was enough food...boy was there! Now I could have helped eat it ALL!
Merry Christmas and an exciting New Year as the hospital moves next summer.
LOL, now there’s a curse worth giving.
Had some acid blow back at me while doing some plumbing.
Wow - as already mentioned, prayers for a speedy recovery and no permanent damage.
Since you are on FR and typing, I assume your eyes are okay.
Take care.

Yea, we only invite you when we need you to stand in the cold FReeping some a$$hat moonbats. For fun things down here you can stay up there and freeze your butt off. /smiling
[Mr] T
As Sarah Palin says, I think it was her, MAN UP Nan!! and quit your crying. Just be sure your worms are cooked to the correct temp or the food police will be out there arresting you. Is there a worm thermometer? Hate to see you using a turkey thermometer.
We ALL love you, we just love you more when you stay home. You and rlmorel should start a whiners club. No Kleenex boxes to throw around as in the commercial.
Merry Christmas back at you.
Mr] T
Dang, we already have all the Kennedy ghost here, do we need any more.
[Mr] T

HARUMPF....
Ha! Kennedy ghosts are pikers. Byrd’s ghost comes with his own sheet.
Dang, I am on both yours and Santa’s naughty list. I would prefer to be on [Mrs] T’s “naughty” list. Lot more fun.
[Mr] T
LOL to both posts.
[Mr] T
Definitely missesd you DollyCali. Next year, ok?!
I still have two more surgeries on my skin around my left eye.
All this time and nobody took that as a user name?
Hope all goes well and there is no or at least minimal scaring. Please keep us apprised of your status even if by private FRmail.
[Mr] T
If you are not already doing so, take 250mg to 500mg of Vitamin C every 6 hours or so, more if you smoke. Also take up to 400 IU of Vitamin E, natural if possible. Get a bottle of 100 IUs and increase by 100 every 3 or 4 days. Can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure if you start high immediately. Both C and E are essential for wound healing.
The ugly Keloid scars that black people often get are due to a Vitamin E deficiency, so if you have any black troops in with you tell them about this. Also, once the skin has formed you can spread E directly on the skin to improve healing. Also good for aging skin. ;-) I am 72. My son is doing his 20 in Special Forces. Thank you for your service, and Merry Christmas!!
Thank your son for me.
Thank your son for me.
Hey Gramma who is near to my age. We seem to have some things in common. My hubby is also Korean Vet. Marine. I would have given the same advice for the burns. I hold to natural cures in everything possible. I am 77 and healthy and still holding a full-time job. I take vitamins and herbs after doing the research on them. Vit C & E are essential to good health. Throw in D3 and you’re pretty well protected from nasty bugs. (I enjoyed meeting you via your profile page. Wish more people would create them).
I missed your news yesterday!
I am sorry to hear you have been burned...chemical?
I did not get to see you this summer...hope you are fine and we meet next year. Family too!
I read the advice you were getting about healing and agree you need extra vitamins, but do not forget to have lots of protein too...worked for me after that accident and lots of healing was needed!
Sounds like you will have time to be on FR, I will be looking for you!
I’m using my Droid.
Thanks for your thanks for my son, your good wishes in general, and appreciation of the nutritional advice. My late husband of 44 years suffered severely from Korean War induced PTSD. Eventually what he did to our marriage caused me to develop PTSD. I then spent years learning how to improve/protect my own physical and mental health, and eventually discovered/developed what would help him too.
I currently take part in a free self-help group of people who use the intense emotional expressive methods for stress relief and emotional healing popularized by Arthur Janov in his best known book “The Primal Scream”. Eventually I received training in a related process and saw clients for 10 years. Several of us would really like to help with the PTSD problem that has been engendered by Iraq and Afghanistan. We meet monthly in Northern Virginia. Please contact me here or In Private if you or someone you know is interested, either in learning how to help, or in being helped. Often spouses can learn how to help their suffering loved one, as I did with my suffering husband. Sometimes the sufferer has tried so hard to push down bad feelings that they are unwilling/unable to get help themselves.
Grandma, I read your profile page too. My husband and I bought some land in WV near Baker in Hardy Co. Is that anywhere near where you are?
Me too.
I was wondering that.
Your work sounds interesting. I know there is never enough being done for those who suffer from PTSD. My husband was fortunate that he never really suffered from it. He has always been extremely jumpy and not comfortable around large crowds or noise. Never slept all that well either. But he has been pretty happy with our life (I think). God bless & MERRY CHRISTMAS!
You are fortunate that the nature of your husband’s PTSD was only jumpiness and reaction to noise. In my case my husband had extreme guilt of both the survivor type and also for killing the enemy. The message that he internalized was that because they were dead, he had no right to happiness. Thus, he did his best/worst to ruin his own happiness as well as mine and our children’s. This is why I feel so strongly motivated to try to help others before they spend a lifetime of unnecessary suffering. Merry Christmas to you too.
