CNN Becoming Irrelevant: Lowest Prime Time Ratings In At Least 13 Years

Is CNN becoming irrelevant?

According to TVByTheNumbers.com, the self-proclaimed most trusted name in news's prime time ratings this year are the lowest since at least 1997:

CNN’s woes worsened this year. Despite the somewhat bogus total reach-touting, the network hit primetime ratings lows (or at least going back to 1997, which is all we could dig up data for) for total viewers and viewers 25-54.

A look at Tuesday's prime time numbers should give you an idea of just how terribly this cable network is doing.

Fox New's "O'Reilly Factor" now frequently gets more viewers than CNN's extended prime time lineup (not including the 11PM broadcast of "Anderson Cooper 360".)

Right in the heart of CNN's weeknight programming, "John King USA" and "Parker Spitzer" received a combined 647,000 total viewers Tuesday which was less than any single first-run program on MSNBC and less than half as much as any first-run show on Fox.

For the whole day Tuesday, CNN averaged only 379,000 viewers per hour compared to Fox's 1.3 million.

To be sure, CNN is doing very well internationally, and its website garners a lot of attention as well as ad revenue. But the cabler's broadcasting numbers are continuing to decline to the point of total irrelevancy.

I am astonished that anyone agrees to be on CNN with client number 9, otherwise known as Elliot Spitzer.

I am even more astonished to find that anyone still thinks Wolf Blitzer, et al are still relevant to any discussion in this country.

Becoming???

I programed my TV to bypass CNN entirely so when you roll channels, it automatically skips CNN (as well as other irrelevant channels like the shopping channels, etc.).

RedEye (seen at 3:00am ET) gets more viewers than CNN’s primetime lineup.

If airports, hotels, taxi cabs and elevators didn’t broadcast CNN, no one would even know it exists.

This is because the Fox News Channel has one of the strongest cable news lineups.

In the early morning you have FOX and Friends.

Then in the afternoon you have Cavuto, Glenn Beck, Special Report, and then O’Reilly.

In the evening/night you have Hannity followed by Greta Van Susteren.

All of these programs are st the minimum EXCELLENT so is it any wonder why Fox News Channel is dominating cable news.

I think not.

It is the same reason that folks like Rush Limbaugh dominate talk radio.

They all speak truth to power.

I tune CNN in sometimes in the morning just to see Karen Chetrey for a few minutes. I’ve always liked her look.

They should offer Dana Loesch the full prime-time block.

She is a awesome. If you have not seen her articulate conservatism, you must. She is a sometimes panelist (also appearing on other networks, FOX, etc)

In the international markets, CNN can fight it out with Al Jazeera for which can be the more anti-American. The market will tell us which is the more effective model: anti-Americanism that derives from religious hatred, or anti-Americanism that derives from left-wing political ideology.

Gee I wonder does calling your viewers and their family members the vulgar homosexual term ‘teabagger’s’, racists, homphobes, Islamaphobes, extremists and the never ending Palin bashing , have any thing to do with it? Hiding news and polls that are negative to Obama? Corrupt ‘flash polls’ in favor of Obama?

Well yes I do.

The only time I even ever see CNN anymore is out in bars and restaurants, where it is inexplicably tuned in on every screen.

I wonder if there isn’t a little Time-Warner Payola going on?

>very well internationally

CNNInternational is a totally different outfit, still giving hard news and with a minimal amount of fluff compared to the boring gabfests of earnest news readers joking, jiving and flirting with each other.

Watching CNNI you actually get an idea of what’s going on in the world.
