Toomey to Support Don’t Ask / Don’t Tell Repeal
NRO ^ | 12/16/2010 | Daniel Foster

Senator-Elect Pat Toomey has just issued a statement supporting repeal of “Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell.”

“As I’ve said previously, my highest priority is to have the policy that best enables our armed services to do their job,” Senator-Elect Toomey said. “Our civilian and professional military leadership have now spoken and said we should repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. I would support a free-standing measure to do so.”

If Majority Leader Reid keeps his word, the freestanding repeal measure passed by the House yesterday will be voted on in the Senate in the lame duck, before Sen.-Elect Toomey is seated. Still, the support of a credible conservative like Toomey is a sure sign that repeal is likely to pass.

Ugh...and I voted for this ass-clown. Of all the things to be working on in these times. Amazing that our government is in the business of destroying this country.

I guess this didn’t come up in the vetting process.

Here’s what I think: people who serve in Congress should have the ability to understand the concept of long-term or unintended consequences. I don’t believe many of them do. So it’s not enough to vote on what sounds good or feels right. But how do we figure out who has the WISDOM to be in the Senate or the House?

I suppose if we are premiting homo activists to molest and sexually degrade children in the public schools, we should let the mlitary deal with it too. We are doomed.

The only way to possibly stop DADT is the House rejects or changes the Bush Tax cut extension bill that they are voting on today, and the Repubs stick to their fig leaf promise not to vote for any other legislation until it passes both houses.

Him too?

This is making me sick. I'm completely convinced that America has become so totally diabolically disorientated that we're incapable of saving ourselves at this point.

"Well I thought my wonderful state Pennsylvania was going in the right direction....Maybe Bush was right after all."

I get why Brown jumped ship - he does, after all represent perhaps the most socially liberal state in the Union. But Toomey represents a fairly othodox conservative state, at least on the social issues. I don't think that there's nearly the clamor in PA as there clearly is in MA to repeal DADT. Plus, Toomey just got elected, and Brown is up for reelection in less than 24-mos. Toomey couldn't keep his yap shut?

Army, Air Force, Marine Chiefs Against DADT Repeal
Dec 3, 2010 • By JOHN MCCORMACK

At today’s Senate hearing, three of the four service chiefs expressed opposition to repealing the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT) policy on gays in the military. “My recommendation is that we should not implement repeal at this time,” said Marine Corps commandant General James F. Amos (watch his opening statement here). “I cannot reconcile, nor turn my back on the Marines most engaged in the day-to-day work of operations in Afghanistan,” said Amos. The Pentagon’s survey showed that 67% of Marines in combat arms units—infantry, artillery, armor—believe repealing DADT would have a negative effect on their unit’s performance.

hmm. I distinctly remember cautioning everyone that Toomey isn’t as conservative as he’d like you to think or as some on FR tried to paint him. After all, this is a guy who historically was pretty pro-UN, was favorable of Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination, & voted for the appoval of RU486. I was flamed & called a troll.

Bottom line is, if you wanna be a Tea Party candidate (which Toomey claimed he was) then expect to have our feet held to the fire. I’ll be calling his office reminding him of this. I had to hold my nose to vote for this Sotomayor-lover.
