Blustery storms heading to Northern California (gonna get ugly wet the next few days or so Alert!)
SFGate.com ^ | 12/16/10 | Kelli Zito

A pair of blustery, soaking storms will stream into Northern California beginning Friday, bringing as much as 10 inches of rain south and east of the Bay Area by Christmas Day and setting up potentially difficult travel conditions for those escaping for the holidays.

Though computer weather models differ on the exact trajectory and strength of the two separate weather systems, meteorologists are bracing for sizable amounts of rain and the possibility that some rivers might overrun their banks.

"No matter how you slice it, it's going to be a significant weather event," said Rob Hartman, lead hydrologist with the National Weather Service's California-Nevada River Forecast Center. "If it comes in heavy and warm, it will be a bigger flood event. But the real wild card is the freezing level."

Sierra braces for big weekend storm
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/ski/detail?entry_id=79117

It’s not quite Frankenstorm, but satellite photos show that a massive stream of moisture is pointed right at the Sierra Nevada and Tahoe for the upcoming weekend. The National Weather Service forecasts that the big stuff will probably start arriving Friday morning and then ram into the mountains through the weekend and into Monday.

It will present a hazard this weekend for those driving to the Sierra. But it could put ski resorts in the best shape in years for the upcoming Christmas-New Year’s holidays.

Heavy rain this weekend; floods likely
http://www.seattlepi.com/local/431547_flood10.html?source=rss
By SCOTT SUNDE
SEATTLEPI.COM
A warm, wet storm system will roll into Western Washington on Saturday night, drenching the area with several inches of rain and likely causing some rivers to flood.

In a flood watch, the National Weather Service said the Tolt River in King County, the Puyallup River naer Orting and the Skokomish River in Mason County “seem certain to flood.”

Well, we’re getting a light rain and cloudy skies here in Phoenix Az, which is almost unheard of.

Personally, I think it’s beautiful.

I am planning to drive from ID to the Bay Area this weekend. I have been looking at the forecast model output all morning here at work, and decided to delay my departure by 1 day. Trying to cross Donner Pass sat night or Sun morning looks like a dead issue.

It looks like a good break late Sun night into Monday over Donner Pass, so that is what I am shooting for. I live for driving in snow, but if the pass is closed, it is game over. I'll probably go as far as Reno on Sunday, then shoot the pass Mon morn.

Pineapple Express indeed. We’ll get it here in LA then. And snow in the Sierras. Very nice.

I was wondering if this had any good news for the Colorado River flow, the Ogallala Aquifer, forest and brush fires, etc. Also, where is “down here” located?
