Repealing the 17th amendment will be a waste of time for a simple reason: Every state will continue to elect Senators by popular vote anyway. Why? Because voters (like me) will demand it. I dont trust my State Rep to make this decision

Either way the State's rights were taken away based on the bogus premise that it would limit corruption and take the money out of the appointment of Senators. It has failed miserly.

Well certaintly the blago trial shows that there still is corruption possible in appointments. But that ‘reform’ sounds like the same bogus premise that all of our campaign finance laws are based on. Somehow corruption will be less.

I am in favor of more direct democracy because it gives We The People more power over our representatives. I favor elected Judges as well (we have that in Texas, and overall it beats appointed judges like they have in many states). There are pros and cons, but it’s a mistake to think that the 17th Amendment was a blow to Federalism. The New Deal had far more to do with the destruction of Federalism.
