The Senate has just voted to end debate on a bill that would lift the ban on gays serving openly in the military, essentially clearing the measure for passage and signature by the president.
Lawmakers voted 63 to 33 to end debate on the current policy, put in place by former president Bill Clinton, informally known as "don't ask don't tell."
The Senate could vote on final passage of the measure as early as today but it will most likely happen on Sunday or Monday.
"We are on the verge of ending 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' for good," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said after the vote "This is one of those moments in our history when we stepped up and squared our policies with the values this nation was founded upon."

I would amend gay "people" to gay "males". It is my unscientific observation as a current active duty Sailor in the USN that the overwhelming majority of gays serving today are female. I don't see gay men as finding the rigors of military service to be particularly attractive. Lesbians, on the other hand, tend to find the masculinity of military culture comfortable.
This whole debate over DADT has been centered around prancing, lisping "queens" turning our military into a haven for effeminate gay males while in reality, females are most affected by any policy regarding gays in the military. And while there are certainly gay males serving in the military, I know, I've served with some, there's a lot more lesbians.

This is just half a step away from open homosexuals in the military. All it takes is a rider amended to another bill quietly in the middle of the night.

I agree with this; but does that include laws of the land to enforce what we KNOW is morally correct, but which is a religious morality? And should that be applied to every sin?
I've always wondered why there wasn't more on an outrage about our military soldiers having "shore leave" -- adultery and fornication is a sin, but only certain types of adultery seem to be of concern in the military.
I oppose this repeal, because I see this as an attack on our culture by a militant group concerned more with changing normalcy than getting along or being allowed to serve.
Still, this was the inevitable result of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". It used to be illegal to be gay in the military. When we changed that to "be gay, just don't let us know about it", we set up for today -- a generation of gay soldiers as "proof" it doesn't matter.
When in fact, the key I think was that gay sexual activity was banned; I think we need to still prohibit all gay sex between military members, and that will be the biggest fallout from repeal.

Not knowing if someone's covertly studying you in the shower as a potential sexual partner is going to cause a LOT of problems. God has called us to make righteous Judgments....you've renigged on the responsibility before Him to agree that Homosexuality is sin....in doing so you are opposing Him. Individuals cannot sit on the fence when it comes to making Judgment calls. By not making a Judgment call you are then siding with the Homosexual community.
