WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.
The final vote to end the Pentagon's 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy was 65-31, drawing support from eight Republicans.
The bill now goes to the White House for Obama's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law next week, a senior White House aide told Fox News.
Sad day in America. Right up there with Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and the stupid health care bill.
Idiots! They no not what they have to the foundations of the military this day. They have done nothing but weaken this great nation.
...and nobody cares that a homosexual purposefully caused the wikileaks dump in a hissy fit...
...and using a nail gun instead of a hammer! >:-(
Any “D” votes against?
Probably. The straight soldier should probably just make an EO complaint instead. And promptly get ignored.
There’s going to be a lot of the gay’s in the military slipping on on a bar of soap, just wait and see.
The next Congress cut off funding for salaries and support costs of any individual who claims to be homosexual while the military ostensibly embarks on a five year study of how best to integrate these perverts.
Deb. I am waiting for my apology.
They couldn't help themselves.
How can a person say no to a diva such as Lisa after all?
The expounded compassion got the best of the good voters of Alaska.
“Now any that are serving in the military, who have a religious or moral belief/objection against homosexuality they best keep their mouth shut.”
The DI’s better not call anyone a sissy now! It will be the end of their career. Then again, it might be an easy way out.
I didn’t say they would. I said that all the whiners here, instead of wringing their hands and crying about the sky falling, should be gettin off their as*es and doing something about. Get involved with anti-homosexual agenda groups, write these a-hole senators on our side who voted for this crap to let them know you’ll be actively seeking their replacement in the next election, start a website, blog, whatever. But I guess finding reasons to fail and lose is easier.
Have fun!
Purposefully.
“Unprincipled swine, the both of them. They vote against cloture, and then vote for the bill itself. They should be booted out of office at the very first opportunity.”
Yep. Now they can say they voted against it.
LOL -no no -it has just begun...
- just a thought
“Every single Republican Senator who voted for this monstrous, immoral, and anti-American piece of anal legislation MUST be defeated. Spare no effort, ever.”
Totally agree with you. Boot ‘em out at the first opportunity.
Tyhey will not be seated until January. The Darling of Alaska was already in Office. She lost the orimary to Joe Miller. Then with the back door backing and blessing of the Republican Party was able to steal the election form Miller via the write in mode.
It is time for acts of extreme prejudice against these reprobates. They cannot hide under the capital dome indefinitely. They need leave Washington at some point. Examples must be made.
On CSPAN2, the banner read something like "The Pentagon and President must certify that combat readiness will not be diminished." IMO, this is just a formality, and the required arm-twisting will be from the top down. "Golly General, that's a nice command and pension you got there. Be a shame if something happened to them." As a retired O-5 friend once told me, "In the military, a suggestion is an order." 0bama is CIC.
I agree, positive ID should be obtained for all members of the military. But getting back tot he point of THIS discussion, it's also silly to have mentally ill people who CHOOSE to engage in sexual perversion serve in the military and announce it to their colleagues.
Might be a good idea.
Knowing the democrats, I fear they will try to make being gay mandatory in the military.
Joe Manchin

Sick sick sick
Zot?
Voting on this bill in the Congress, yea or nay, should have been restricted to those who have actually worn the uniform.
Forget what the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs says. He’ll never again in his life be in the situation of shared living with other troops. And, in Mullen’s case, I think he’s something of a political whore who will do/say whatever Obama wants rather than the rank and file. I may dislike him even more than I do Obama.
Yep RD...thing is...why fix something not broken? When I was a junior officer in the navy I was the disbursing officer on a very large ship (USS SAIPAN-LHA-2). I had a division of 8 guys. Me - three African Americans, a Portuguese fella, a Bostonite, a Mexican kid, a homo, and a filipino 1st Class. We didn’t have any problems at all.
Everybody was good at math...the homo kid was a wizard. Nobody cared cause he kept it to himself. I knew he was queer because the shoes he wore out on liberty were more expensive than my whole uniform. Still...I would have backed the kid up at Captains Mast any day because he was good at his job and didn’t flirt with the other guys.
The military should be comprised of the best and brightest since lives are always at risk. By definition, homosexuals are deviants. Period.
Their abominable, disgusting deathstyle choice (and a choice is precisely the apt term) shows that they are utterly incapable of proper decision-making.
May God Almighty help our country and our soldiers in the wake of this most grievous sin.
Burr, Ensign, Voinovich, Kirk, Murkowski, Scott Brown, Snowe and Collins.
IMO this deserves the ZOT.
The Tea Party did back Brown. My bad on Kirk.
“The group Tea Party Express circulated a Rasmussen poll early Wednesday morning showing that 40 percent of Massachusetts voters now approve of the movement (to 41 percent who disapprove), and talking about the party’s contribution to Brown’s win”.
I wonder what ahmadinejads of the world are thinking to themselves today?
I wonder what they’re discussing in their national security bunkers???
They must be laughing their heads off!

There is a problem with homosexuals in the military as we should be taking sick mental folk as Manning has proved.
1. A straight service member has an openly gay service member assigned as his roommate. The straight service member now must accept this. If he expresses the fact that this makes him uncomfortable what then? Will he be told tough, deal with it? Does he risk punishment of some kind from his commanding officers?
2. A gay service member from Massachusetts wants on base housing for he and his same gender spouse. Will the military have to accommodate him? If you are a normal straight couple with children will you now be forced to live next door to this couple if you reside in on base housing? You must now accept this lifestyle as normal or else?
3. Will gays now demand their own gay only NCO club on base? How about a bathhouse?
4. Will the military be forced to accept blood donations from homosexuals even though there is a long incubation period with the HIV virus?
>> I wonder what ahmadinejads of the world are thinking to themselves today?
How to enlist.
“There are already more than 35 nations with open service by homosexuals in their militaries including our nearest allies like the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Israelis. Our fighting men (and women) can handle this.”
Screw off, reprobate!
Our military should NOT have to “handle” this.
Jim, ZOT this freaking moron.
Everyone get on their phones and call the White House ASAP. Don’t wait! Do it now!!! /sarc. Nobody hold their breath please! We don’t need any deceased FREEPERS.
Thanks for the additional input. It may be just a formality, but maybe not. The DoD knows more than it’s telling about how devastating this would be for our troops. I wonder just how eager they are to initiate the destruction this change would wreak. I don’t claim any insider knowledge, but I do think there are reasons for the DoD to apply the brakes on implementation. This would be a terrible time for enlistment and re-ups to plummet, for morale to take a nosedive, and for general disruption and degradation in the ranks.
How many will declare their preference and how many are in the Military? I bet the final estimated numbers are trivial. How bad a hit will recruiting take?
Well, now we’ll see what happens. If a year from now, two years from now we see that there are problems, that unit cohesion is degraded, that recruitment or morale is down, that the effectiveness of the force is down, then it shouldn’t be that hard to get a new law put in place.
I mean if we start getting routed by the Taliban next year or in 2012 then I think the GOP won’t have that difficult a time changing the rules. To be honest, we haven’t exactly been kicking ass with the current law in place. And polling shows that the public largely supports this by well over 60%. Unfortunate, but true.
I don’t think there are that many gays in the military to begin with. Will this open the floodgates? I doubt it.
I’m at least willing to see what happens. Not every prediction of doom comes true.
In terms of long term impact, the DREAM Act and the START Treaty are much more important. If we get to the end of the session and we end up with with the tax rates extended, no DREAM Act, no START, but DADT is repealed, I’d say that’s about as good as we could expect given themakeup of the Congress. Come Jan 1 everything will change and the Dems won’t get anything.
I can’t believe there will now be officially licensed Rump Rangers. Let’s hope our fighting men and women recognize that only 3% of people identify themselves as gay.
So are they going to modify the UCMJ as it relates to sodomy???
Since when did this become a "whites only" board?
I must have missed that memo...
The reason 8 republicans voted yes was because they did not want anyone who opposed this to be able to single out a senator and point to them as the person who’s vote changed the policy.
“I wonder if America needs a Pinochet to straighten things out?”
I have lived in and spent time in military dictatorships and I don’t believe that you want any part of that experience as a citizen.
Why does your tag line advocate John Bolton for Vice President when he hold a different view from us on gays in the military?
“Lynching is the way to go now, whereas you get caught in the act and you hang from a tree”
Lynching anyone is pure cowardice. I thinks it’s automatically justified to open fire on such people, if one stumbles upon any group lynching someone,,,period. Wyatt Earp agrees,,,
P.S. - it was easy for me in the navy as an officer - I only had one roomate on the ship...normal seamen sleep three high and share everything...alas.
