WASHINGTON, D.C. (NNS) -- The Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Gary Roughead, released the following statement following the vote to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell":

I am pleased the Congress voted to repeal of the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' statute (section 654 of title 10, United States Code).

This Senate action does not immediately change the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

If the President signs the provision into law, there are still a series of steps that will take place before Don't Ask, Don't Tell is repealed.

First, the Department of Defense will prepare the necessary policies and regulations to implement the change. We will also ensure that the force is provided training on the new policies.

Second, the President, Secretary of Defense and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff must certify that the change can be made consistent with military readiness, military effectiveness, unit cohesion, and recruiting and retention.

"consistent with military readiness, military effectiveness, unit cohesion, and recruiting and retention."

Ya, that makes total sense! If only General Patton was here, I nice little slap seems appropriate.

Admiral Butthead should be the first to have a teabagging roommate.

Does it surprise anyone who has familiarity with the armed forces that the Navy would be pro-homosexual?

Shame on Admiral Roughead. If he were a man of honor, he would put in his retirement papers and condemn this action.

So, is there a chance the JCS can determine that the change can NOT be made in such a manner as described, and NOT allow homosexuals to serve?

Based on his wording, it sounds like there is some wiggle-room.

BTW, I heard this guy Adm. Roughead interviewed last week and he said the same thing when pressed, that he would be happy when the law is repealed and that they would need some time to implement changes in procedure, etc.

Ouch! but from an old AirDog's perspective, it is funny.

Explicitly embracing one leg of the Royal Navy triad of "rum, buggery and the lash", will he also be embracing the other two?

>> We will also ensure that the force is provided training on the new policies.

No doubt “sensitivity training”. The process will be morally abrasive if not repulsive to the good men and women serving.

You are absolutely right!

I am pleased... could either be a gratuitous and sarcastic choice of words, or he is also one of the "perfumed princes" who ignores his oath (with credit to Col David Hackworth, RIP).

I’m wondering how many officers will tender their resignation, and how many NCOs will leave at the end of their contract.

Slime. Don’t think McCain did not support this even if he voted against it. His whole clan is pro-gay marriage as is his pal Graham-nesty. Everybody needs to put their think cap on and try to come up with a way to overturn or sabotage this betrayal.
