Christmas trees 'make non-Christians feel excluded'
Christmas trees should be removed from public places to avoid making non-Christians feel excluded, scientists have suggested
By Andy Bloxham 11:43AM GMT 20 Dec 2010
Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada, found non-Christians feel less self-assured and have fewer positive feelings if a Christmas tree was in the room.
The scientists conducted the study using 77 Christians and 57 non-believers, including Buddhists and Sikhs.
The participants did not know the survey was about Christmas, and were asked to fill in questions about themselves both when a 12-inch Christmas tree was in the room and when it was not.
"Non-celebrators" reported fewer positive feelings and less self-assurance in the Christmas room. Christians were mostly cheered by the tree.
Christians, however, did report feeling more guilt when a tree was in the room, which, claim the researchers, suggests the holidays can be stressful.

Tough hop..
My car is old. Being around new cars makes me feel excluded. So I guess they should get rid of all of the new cars.
Yes, they “feel less self assured” when a reminder is in the room that there is an ultimate truth that they are rejecting.
The Law is written on all human hearts. Whenever there is a reminder, it rears its head up to convict the sinner.
Christians, however, did report feeling more guilt when a tree was in the room, which, claim the researchers, suggests the holidays can be stressful.
What a dumbass. He makes an assertion as to the source of the guilt based on his own secular worldview assumptions.
Then they'd be in the majority! (After all, Budhists, muslims, islamics, Hindus and a host of others do not strictly "celebrate" Christmas. Totalled up, they make up the majority!)
Some people need to get over themselves.
So if I feel excluded from Ramadan, Muslims must give it up?
There are too many illegal aliens getting free stuff, and it makes me feel excluded, let’s get rid of all the illegal aliens.......
Do they want a tissue? Here’s a thought: Deal with it!? =.=
Good frakin grief.
Hey, that's nothing. We're just getting one of ours back today after a week in the shop. I think we should get rid of all functioning cars, just to boost my sense of self-worth...
You know better.
The secular left isn’t opposed to “religion”,
they’re opposed to Christianity.
I am sick and tired of worrying about how people feel.
Too damn bad, the exclusion is self generated.
F-em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel the excluded every time I see a unicorn or rainbow but I don’t go a bitching & moaning about it.
Yes, and so do British flags...and unveiled women...
Well boo hoo. I also have emotions when I see something I am uncomfortable with- child abuse and neglect, animal abuse and neglect, elderly abuse and neglect, kidnappings, drunk drivers, repeat violent offenders, welfare recipients who are fully capable of working, illegals who overload our welfare system while continuing to squirt out anchor babies, homocide bombers...
You see, these are BAAAAADDD things. A Christmas tree reminds us of and stands for GOOD things. If something makes you uncomfortable, I suggest you go to a place where Christmas trees are nonexistant. Like Riyahd. And take your whole family. Our welfare program could use the break.
not like those “Non-Muslims Forbidden” signs around Mecca make anyone feel excluded or anything...
“My car is old. Being around new cars makes me feel excluded. So I guess they should get rid of all of the new cars”.
...LOL! Exactly!
Sorry, researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada.
Have you confused me with someone that really gives a rats ass what you think?
“Researchers at Simon Fraser University in Canada...”
Say no more. I’m already releasing the safety...”
When I watch the “Oscar” presentations I never get one. I feel excluded. No more Oscars.
Will it make ‘em happy if we top the Christmas tree with a pentagram?
So if I feel excluded from Ramadan, Muslims must give it up?

No, you must skip eating too...so they don’t feel alone.
Exactly what Christmas trees have to do with Christianity is beyond me but, nevertheless, if this is indeed the case, there's one simple solution for you excluded-feeling non-Christians out there.
Repeat after me: "Lord, forgive me, a sinner...."
Shouldn't scientists be busying themselves with discovering cures for illness or something? Last I checked this isn't their area of expertise.
But I put my Christmas tree outside to INCLUDE them in my holiday. If I wanted to exclude them, I’d put it inside where they couldn’t see it.
Why should they “feel excluded”?
Christmas has become the most all inclusive holiday ever, through commercialization and secularization.............
A Christmas tree is just a fir tree.
It can’t “make you feel” anything.
That’s all up to the internal interpreter.
atheism sucks - no holidays
agnosticism sucks- maybe there’s a holiday, maybe not, who knows?
paganism sucks- clouds cover the sun and moon - the gods are unavailable, but please leave a message
and then for the rest of us, there’s festivus.
The crap that passes for scientific study these days is just a joke - these things are all so subjective in nature to call it science is insulting.
The real birthday of Jesus Christ was about the time of the Jewish passover. Christian missionaries changed it around the 4th century to convert the Germanic tribes. It also made sense symbolically as the birth of Jesus brought light into the world.
Good. Get out.
When I am in Turkey, the muezzin doesn't make me feel bad. When I am in Israel, the diminution in traffic after sundown on Friday bothers me not.
Even in Salt Lake City, the lack of coffee shops is fine with me.
FEELINGS
Feelings, nothing more than feelings,
trying to forget my feelings of love.
Teardrops rolling down on my face,
trying to forget my feelings of love.
Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl; you’ll never come again.
Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
wo-o-o, feel you again in my arms.
Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
and feelings like I’ve never have you again in my heart.
Feelings, for all my life I’ll feel it.
I wish I’ve never met you, girl; you’ll never come again.
Feelings, feelings like I’ve never lost you
and feelings like I’ve never have you again in my life.
Feelings, wo-o-o feelings,
wo-o-o, feelings again in my arms.
Feelings...(repeat & fade)

Those who feel excluded should do what I do when Cinco de Mayo rolls around. Buy some beer and forget about it...
I can produce studies which show that non-Christians get excited at the sight of a Christmas tree. The number of people who are non-Christian but who nonetheless celebrate Christmas is a very large number inside and outside the US.
One stdy means nothing, partitularly when it contradicts the experience of people in Japan and other countries.
The sample is not significant anyway.

...and St. Patrick’s Day.....................
to damn bad...welcome to America...if you don’t like it...leave.
Well hey I don’t have (fill in the blank) or I don’t have enough ( fill in the blank again) or even worse-I can not get my tree put together correctly- doggone it, I want someone over here right now to take care of that. And part of that of course will be to bring a big pile of expensive presents (or one big one, a new car) complete with taxes and tags paid for.
What a pathetic pile of poo.
It is attitudes like this exclusion bit, whine moan groan feel sorry for me that gives us a country full of little children’s mentality that puts us in the dangerous situation we are in today.
Okay My soap box is set aside for now.
I highly doubt you'll bet a Sikh to feel that way.
In a Christian country, are they implying that's a bad thing?
In the case of Christianity, all are welcome to be included (unlike some other religions I could name). That's where we get the whole "Peace on earth" thing. The complete quote, as I recall, is "Peace on earth to men of good will."
You know what "good will" means, right? Among other things, that means as long as you very special non-Christian people don't bring bombs, and you know who you are.
Good! There's WHOLE COUNTRIES all setup to make people like them feel good, where you won't see a Christmas Tree anywhere. Go there ASAP!
The part of the report they left out, "Practicing pagans felt neither guilty nor excluded with the tree in the room."
It is their own problem. How they see things is entirely up to their own interpretations, their own educational foundations, religious, secular, Radical, Atheist. etc. Who cares what bothers them.
some are bothered ny sunshine, some are bothered by rain, some are bothered by animals, Some are bothered by fur coats. Do they eat meat? That bothers the vegetarians.
ENOUGH ALREADY, BE QUIET AND MOVE ASIDE. LIVE WITH IT.
THAT IS WHAT FREEDOM IS ALL ABOUT: FREEDOM OF CHOICE AS LONG AS it is NOT physically HARMFUL, OR PAINFUL, FORCING OTHERS TO ANOTHERS WILL.
