Boycott the History Channel's Advertisers
Coach Is Right ^ | 12/20/10 | Bruce Karlson

Recently the History Channel proved that it is as snarky as those of who watch it thought.

To wit: the Georgia Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) wanted to run some ads on the History Channel. These ads pointed out the legal basis for secession and, quite accurately, that the North invaded the newly configured Confederacy (Manassas/Bull Run is, after all, in Virginia). Another pointed out that Northern interests essentially ran the Federal government, frequently to the advantage Northern supporters at the expense of the South. The most accurate ad of all simply stated that ANY STATE had the right to remove itself from the Union. It is fair to opine that, if our Founders had put an ominous clause in the Constitution forbidding an exit, our nation would have started out with many fewer states…including Virginia,... … Continue Reading:Boycott the History Channel’s Advertisers!!

Agree and same goes for the Travel Channel. Their programing is now all about eating food. WTH?

Of all the problems facing the country today, is the question of whether or not states have the right to succeed from the Union at the top of the priority list?

You're kidding, right?

A few more votes for the DREAM act and we would be discussing nothing else right now.

First, saying one ad is “the most accurate” pretty much admits that the other ads have innacuracies. You can be the “most” if others are not “less”.

Further, the “most accurate” ad wasn’t accurate. In fact, the constitution clearly says that the right of a state’s membership in the union is held by Congress. “New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union;”. The only time the state legislatures are allowed to be involved in this process is if the state is being taken from another state, or if two existing states are merging.

If congress has the right to vote on admitting states, then it seems clear that, if there were a right for a state to leave, that right would be held by congress as well.

But in fact, nothing at all is mentioned about states leaving. You can either assume that they never expected a state to want to leave, or they purposely didn’t allow states to leave, or that they felt states could leave whenever they wanted.

But that last interpretation would make the entire fight over the original 13 states joining up to be a farce. Why would you enter protracted arguments and world-changing compromises to convince some state to enter the union, if you expected they could simply vote themselves back out next year? Why not instead simply ask South Carolina to vote for the union in return for paying them some money and letting them quit immediately?

All “reality” shows are scripted. I found on IMDB Operation Repo had actors listed. None of it is real.

I do enjoy the pickers and Pawn shows. I know they’re scripted but there are some interesting artifacts that come up from time to time.

As for the documentaries, usually one sided. Including the one on gangs in Memphis I watched the other day. The problem was caused by white flight according to the History Channel.

Finally, I guess since it’s a free enterprise company they can turn down any ads they want.

Agreed. As an architect/engineer, I enjoy some of the “Modern Marvels” programs, where some background history is provided.

R. Lee Ermy’s “Lock ‘n’ Load” was a lot of fun on the History International channel as was the “Dogfights” and “Sniper” programs. The latter reinforced my belief in the M-14 and my Springfield M1A (civilian version of the M-14). There’s nothing like 7.62mm NATO.

Exactly. The History channel rarely presents true history and when they do, it almost always has a left wing and anti Christian bent. And, it is filled with strange programing. The preoccupation with UFOs is patently bizarre.

"Just looked at this groups website...I would have have banned them too"

Why?

You believe one has no right to his own beliefs? Right of Freedom of Speech?

Right of FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION?

Political-correctness is code for Socialist/Marxist/Progressive indoctrination to be tolerant of abhorent behavior.

I still thumb through and find a decent program pretaining to History from time to time to DVR, some older stuff they rebroadcast. The days of watching the History Channel during primetime are long gone, however.

The only thing I can come up with is: if you screw up in either field, that's what you'll be. Rather quickly, as well.

Well put..

I watched “The Rise and fall of The Third Reich” also.

One of the finest programs I have seen in a long while. I have been thinking a great deal about WWII since seeing the program.

After Stalingrad, I can better understand the fear of German civilians contemplating a Russian invasion of Berlin.
