Invisible fence products for dogs are common as could be in the suburbs where this occurred. They’re on the shelf down at Home Depot and Lowes. You should look the next time you are there. If you are living in a Unibomber hut in the middle of nowhere without either close, I’m sure TSC has them.
There are plenty of reasons for anyone with two brain cells to rub together to think a barking dog might stop.

By the way, I just looked at the neighborhood. This is an upscale lakefront community with large houses on what look to be around 1/2 acre lots. If the dog was 25’ from the porch, as reported, you are indeed correct, the dog was not anywhere near the property border, and our various Internet Tough Guys on the thread look even more ridiculous. If that is even possible.
