Russia Warns Senate Not to Amend Arms Control Treaty

WASHINGTON — Russia warned the United States Senate on Monday not to rewrite the new arms control treaty being debated on Capitol Hill as American lawmakers clashed about the politics of ratification in the waning days of the Congressional session.

Republican critics of the treaty, known as New Start, offered more amendments to the treaty’s language on verification and launcher limits. But any change to the treaty text would require both countries to return to the negotiating table, and Moscow made it clear that senators had to accept the treaty or reject it as it is, without amendments.

“I can only underscore that the strategic nuclear arms treaty, worked out on the strict basis of parity, in our view fully answers to the national interests of Russia and the United States,” Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, told the Interfax news agency on Monday. “It cannot be opened up and become the subject of new negotiations.”

The Russian statement provoked a sharp response from the leading Republican treaty opponent, Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona. “What’s wrong with that?” he asked of returning to the negotiating table to improve the treaty. “Unless you think the U.S. Constitution was really stupid to give the Senate a role in this, it doesn’t seem there’s anything wrong with the Senate saying, ‘You got about nine-tenths of it right.’ ”

Or what? What will they do? Be mean to The Failed Obama Administration©. Putin, trust me, is wetting his pants laughing so hard at America. One of his “sleepers” in the White House and nobody on Earth cares a bit about the Cold War START II treaty. This is comedy. Pure global comedy watching the Democrats think any of this matters...

Russia has not signed off on this. They had....but they withdrew their signature.

Which means that the only nation bound by it would be the US, which makes this one-each royal screw job.

Thanks for putting that the way I would. Have you noticed that most now would write it the other way? “I wouldn’t follow Obama into battle, much less K-Mart.”

the strategic nuclear arms treaty, worked out on the strict basis of parity, in our view

"in our view" you mean the perspective of the kleptocratic remnant of the USSR?

"strict basis of parity"? This treaty needs to be renegotiated by people who actually love their country and want her and her ideals to win.

Obama, Hilary and their State Department couldn't win a game of checkers against a 5th grader. Why would we let them do our negotiating against lying tyrants that play chess?

I shudder at the thought of the current wimpy adinistration negotiating anything with the Russians. I can just see 0, in tears, as he plead with them to give a just a little so he can “make history”.

“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth in their military chest; with a Bonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”

- Abraham Lincoln

Let me understand, this proposed treaty is backed by, Obama, VP Biteme,James Baker,Henry Kiss my accents ass,Madam Al Dim,Richard Luger and Vald. The host of the enlightened. What the hell is in this that makes all these parties want it passed? Inquiring minds want to know. My best guess is it bends us all over and enslaves us to world government. Just my two cents.
