Posted on 12/20/2010 9:31:55 PM PST by Dick Bachert
I am sending the following to my new congressional representative and, if you agree, please do likewise. This country is in ENOUGH trouble without defeated and often embittered officials vindictively getting in a few licks at the folks who sent them packing -- not to mention the REST of us!
The recent "lame duck" activity in the House and Senate makes clear the need for legislation to prevent ousted incumbents from introducing or voting on legislation prior to the seating of the new member. When an incumbent elected public official is not returned to office, it is the same as when an employee is fired. The people (obviously) no longer trust that person to represent them. It would be bizarre for a fired employee in the private sector to be allowed to set binding policy for his/her replacement. It shouldnt be different for elected officials. In the private sector in which I worked for 40 years, a fired employee is asked to pack up and move out THAT DAY, some with the assistance of burly security folks.
As soon as possible, I am asking you to put forth legislation to prevent "Lame Ducks" from introducing legislation or voting after they have been "fired" by the people who sent them to Washington.
For God and the Republic,
Thank you very much for posting this, Dick Bachert. Will do!
It will need to approved by 2/3 of both houses and ratified by 3/4 of the states.
Then we keep cleaning those two places OUT until we get those numbers. And if we do that, the states should not be a problem if, in fact, that is necessary. I’ll need to research the Constitutional language to see if an Amendment is required for that.
The only ones safe from almost instant corruption are the first termers. And they should be watched closely. Otherwise, we will continue getting an endless train of "legal" criminals, actually elected career criminals like :
Bawney Fwank, Chris Dodd, John Conyers, Hilary Clinton, Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel, John Murtha, William Jefferson...
Ignore meaningful eligibilita standards, and what you see is what you get.
Trust me, it is.
They should be treated like many fired employees. They should be required to vacate their offices the day before election day. If defeated, they and their staff should be barred from their offices, and not allowed to set foot in the U.S. Capitol. Anything they leave in their offices should be considered government property.
In other words: NO LAME DUCKS.
And the new Members should be sworn in within a month, or sooner.
Did anyone really think they were just gonna go away? I knew the day after the election that if the republicans did not show up in force and block everything that the commies would pass every freedom cutting measure they could. In the senate we had the same commie republicans from the same commie states voting in lockstep with the commies. We need to clean up the senate in 2012, and get rid of as many entrenched commies as possible.
Great idea! Meanwhile, any way we can filibuster our way through the next two weeks?
Historically, since the 20th Amendment's ratification, lame duck sessions have been uncommon with several multi-year gaps along the way (1940-'54, '56-'68, '84-1992).
However, lame duck sessions have occurred with nearly every Congress since Bill Clinton's first term which is far too often in my view. I've read 39 states don't even allow lame duck sessions to avoid the problems we're seeing.
