In my comment: The FBI visit and the Imam(s) instructions not to cooperate came only after Muslim parents reported the attempts of radicals to influence their children. The Imam did not report the radicals activities, some parents did. The Imam only tried to prevent the FBI from finding the radicals.

As for cases (as in your comment) were the FBI informant initiates action in a mosque to find those interested in terrorism: If a Mosque is innocent, they will report the informant posing as a radical and the test in itself would have served of revealing mosques that are not hospitable to this type. If they don't report the informant, then that mosque shows itself to be protective of that terrorist and a very likely place to bait terrorist wannabes. In light of the history of terrorism & mosques, I wish all mosques were tested!

If Islamists, their fellow travelers & useful idiots succeed in prohibiting this technique, many terrorist wannabes will be able to hook up unfettered with real deal terrorist recruiters in mosques, and be able to hatch their deadly plots.

Concerning this specific case you cite, Monteilh seems to have been, at least, working both sides - if not an Islamist double agent from the start: "Monteilh... had worked as a prison {Muslim} chaplain before he was incarcerated." If he is not credible in his original claims against the terrorist wannabe, he is not credible in his newer charges against FBI methods and techniques.

But, can we afford to say that because the fight against International Islamic Radicals is a long, dirty and convoluted struggle (as was the fight against International Communism) that will require us to match our adversaries deceptions or lose, it is not worth winning?

Lastly, let me address the BS of the "Muslim Community" quoted in your article, as reflected in these excerpts:

"The community feels betrayed," said Shakeel Syed, executive director of the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California, an umbrella group of more than 75 mosques.
What about the betrayal felt by Americans, who allowed Muslims in their country, afforded them more freedoms then non-Muslims would be allowed in any Muslim country, and then was paid back by many "Muslim Communities" by either sheltering terrorists or refusing cooperation in apprehending them?
As worshipers milled around outside, they said they support the FBI's role in fighting terrorism but feel betrayed by the infiltration of their sacred place.
Since terrorist plots have repeatedly been hatched in "their sacred place{s}" and they don't cooperated with that infiltration their support is a sham.
"The FBI wants to treat the Muslim community as a partner while investigating us behind our backs,'' said Kurdi, the Loyola student.” They can't have it both ways."
The Muslims can't have it both ways. They can't claim to want to honest & cooperative partners unless they welcome police to weed out the terrorist and terrorist wannabes they don't seem to have the ability or desire to weed out themselves. They should welcome the test of their cooperation as an opportunity to prove themselves.

Time for them to be forced to choose sides: The informant issue will show which side they are on.

There’s an inherent problem, here. While mosques vary considerably as to their “temperament”, a majority of Imams don’t. This is because the vast majority of Imams are trained in madrassas in Pakistan by the radical Wahabbi sect.

So mosques around the world have little choice except to have either a radical cleric, or no cleric at all. This explains what you noted, why it was parents who alerted the authorities, and the Imam who wants nothing to do with the authorities. In truth, it was likely the Imam who radicalized their sons in the first place, against the wishes of their parents.

Importantly, mosque ownership is only rarely by the Imam. He is just an employee, hired to conduct services and give sermons. Sharia law is not taught there. Far too complicated. And as a real eye opener, about 1/3rd of US Muslims don’t attend a mosque at all.

There were even a few mosques in the US prior to the American Revolution. The largest concentration of mosques in the US in the first half of the 20th Century were in the Midwest, and Ford Corp. had several hundred Muslim employees by 1920, so had a mosque built near one of their assembly plants.

From my own experience, I knew a blond haired, blue eyed Irish Muslim US Army Captain, who back in the 1980s was a liaison at a US Army base that trained a lot of foreign officers. He brokered a deal between the Army and the Saudi government to go 50/50 into buying a house in the nearby town, so that Muslim officers and their wives and children would have a mosque.

He had to be a master at both scheduling and etiquette, because every different country, and sect of Islam had their own rules for every dang thing, and many of them had to be kept far apart from other Muslims of different sects and countries, or there would be a brawl. And this was in addition to his regular job.

Even back then he still got a full background investigation and security check about every three to six months. Often is was him trying to convince that that yes, indeed, he was a Muslim. Some just wouldn’t believe him.
