Southern California was bracing for another powerful storm front Tuesday evening as a sixth straight day of rain brought dramatic rescues, flooded freeways and concerns about mudslides.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers Tuesday will give way to heavy rain at night. Officials said the rain will continue into Wednesday with a chance of hail, high winds and thunderstorms. The weather service said the wind will be so strong in some mountain communities Wednesday morning that it could uproot trees. Gusts in some areas could top 65 mph.
The snow level is expected to drop to 4,500 feet.

Four men stranded in Orange County's Trabuco Canyon were rescued Tuesday morning when they were plucked from the flooded foothills by helicopter. The men were spotted soon after daybreak when the helicopter flew over the fast-moving Trabuco Creek and saw them inside their vehicle.
A woman who was swept away in her pickup while crossing a rain-swollen creek in the San Bernardino National Forest was rescued Monday night after a harrowing four-hour recovery effort, officials said. ..
More than 5 inches of rain have already fallen in downtown Los Angeles this month, and the record of 8.77 inches for December is within reach. Mammoth Mountain has already recorded the highest December snow levels ever.

As to whether you’re right or not, who knows, but KFI and ABC have reported that about 250 homes will be evacuated this evening in La Crescenta and La Canada for fear of excessive flooding. It appears they think this evening’s rain is going to be worse than the last go-round. My weather app is referring to possible thunder-storms and that generally lends itself to a cloud-burst effect.
To put this in perspective, there were daily totals of up to five inches in these areas in the last few days with little bad effect. That causes me to wonder what they are seeing, that would be worse than that.
I don’t wish bad effects on anyone, but I’ll be very happy to see rain continue. We’re in a severe drought. We need this rain.
It’s my hope that continued rain won’t cause more problems than have been experienced up to this point.
Indeed, 5 inches of rain is a LOT of rain, particularly up there in the hills. But, I've heard too on the radio that the 'catch basins' up there have plenty of room for more run-off! Seems contradictory, and indeed we need rain to even hope to fill up some of the reservoirs that we depend on.

Strange weather patterns world wide, increase in earthquake activities along with volcanic eruptions. Could all this be a prelude to what we can expect as we approach December 21st, 2012?
Chances are you may have heard predictions about December 21st- 2010 and may have wondered what it is all about. The following is about one of the best simplistic explanations around I came across.
For comparison sake imagine our Milky way Galaxy about the size of a Wall Mart super store parking lot which is slowly rotating. Our solar system is located at the outer edge of the Milky-way and for comparison sake our own solar system would be about the size of a penny if we place it adjacent to the WM parking lot. Now lift this imaginary penny up about twelve inches above the WM parking lot.
Now over several thousand years this coin (Penny) our solar system has been moving on down until it is on the same level or plane as our Milky Way and this will happen on December 21st -2012 and from then on this coin (our solar system) will be moving below the Milky Way Galaxy again for several thousand years and eventually it will return again.
Once the plane of our solar system lines up with the plane of the Milky Way Galaxy a change in gravitational forces will come in to play and will interact with our own Solar System including our planet Earth. Just think what our little “Moon” does as it causes high and low tides, now think what a huge Galaxy like the Milky Way may do? There is a very delicate balance between objects moving about in space and movement of some will interact with others. These are things you will not hear about in the news as you can be sure if explained to the public it could cause some concern. There also may be some interaction with the sun, resulting in the expulsion of more than the usual amount of solar flares, should some of the bigger ones impact Earth they could cause severe damage to life as well as property. It has happened in the past and it can not be ruled out that it may happen again.
One way or another there is very little what we can do about it, never the less if unusual “Things” start to happen as we are approaching this point in time, such as more frequent earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and strange weather patterns at least it will be worthwhile knowing their causes. I do not subscribe to any “Doomsday” scenario neither that Earth will come to an end as it will continue as it has for millions of years, but coming events may shake people up enough to get a different perspective on a variety of things.
Along here it may be interesting to note that this same date coincides with the expiration of the Mayan calendar and as stated. “After this date Humans will be looking at things from a much different perspective” The question remains, what did the Mayans know and where did their information come from what we are about to witness and find out?

I’m out of state, in Oregon for Christmas and hoping we have a house left back in Eagle Rock! I worry about our river rock walls. they need “ retro-fited” and reinforced and I hear of all the rain and just wonder.
Any links of damage?

With ground satured....I am sure there are problems.
this morning news showed slides at Lagunda beach and Santiago Canyon here in Orange county and there was a problem on the 57 and the 10 intersection.
But been away from the TV since much earlier this morning...

Is that close to Eagle Rock?
Up in Oregon they tried and failed to tax the run off rain water, we live in the coastal foot hills it’s gotta run somewhere.
Now they are trying to tax the run off rain water per homeowner in Salem, Oregon.
I have looked at and even had quotes in putting in a rain run off system but the cost was hyper inflated.
As I understand it the systems that are used now are not meant to come into the home for toilet flushing/washing ect..
I surely don’t need rain water to water the property.
Home in that Highland Area.....mudflow came in and filled the lower level of a two story to the ceilings....family escaped out the second story windows...with an escape ladder....photo and interview with the lady...very distraught.
I don't think there is any hope for the home.
Ron, they spent months cleaning those catch basins up this last spring. My folks live up that way and they had heavy trucks going up and down Boston literally all summer. I’m sure they were doing the same thing over around Briggs. Both streets have water channels that are fed from above. There are probably two or three other channels in between.
I’m not sure exactly what they were doing, but they were obviously moving a lot of dirt. The trucks were large dump trucks. They were going up empty and going down full.
That work has evidently paid off. Frankly, I’m amazed that with the rain we have had, there hasn’t been more problems. They were showing run-off on one street thought to be a problem, and it was crystal clear, no mud or particulate matter.
We just had a cloud burst here. I live just north of Glendale College, which is about seven miles directly south of the areas at risk. For about a half hour the clouds opened up and poured rain on my location. The sun came out just long enough to provide a very nice rainbow.
It had been raining for several hours when the heavy rain hit.
If you come directly south on the two freeway you’ll hit the extreme east side of Eagle Rock. Eagle Rock is more like South East of the area of concern, at about eight miles.
If you look at the two and 134 freeways, Eagle rock is located in the north west quadrant of that corner.
The two dumps out on Foothill. From there you would go left to the Briggs area and go up toward the mountains as far as you could go to find the problem areas. I’m sure the problems exist pretty much all along the perimeter of where the homes buttress nature up there, from the edge of La Crescenta over through La Canada.
Of course the real problem is where the small canyons empty out. As long as the catch basins are doing okay, homes should be too. Of course if you have a real downpour, like we’ve been having, you don’t have to have a recognized bad area for something to crop up real quick.
BTW, take it with a grain of salt where those reporters say they are. I’ve seen them standing in La Crescenta calling it La Canada and vise versa.
We just got a look at the mountain a few minutes ago when the clouds broke to reveal a great sunset...The mountains look like the Swiss Alps...Just beautiful!
You’re probably talking about the Mount Wilson section of the mountains. There are still clouds blocking my view of them.
The air is so clean and the hillsides look so nice. The smaller mountain across from us has thick lush grass sprouting up.
I love this time of the year when it rains.
Don’t you want to reach in to the television and slap the talking heads who pop up about ten minutes after the first rain drops in six months, to demand from the weather man how soon it will be over?
Last week they were saying the rain would last for a week, and almost apologizing for having to put out that info. I was happy to hear it.
