LOS ANGELES — Hillside residents fortified their defenses as fire and police crews staged dramatic water rescues ahead of an even worse storm system expected to hit Southern California on Tuesday evening with more rain, hail and gusts up to 65 mph.

Virtually the entire state has been affected by the storms that began Friday, dumping moisture from far Northern California south to San Diego.

The National Weather Service predicted an even fiercer storm would roll into Southern California beginning Tuesday night, bringing 2 to 8 inches of rain in most areas and up to 10 inches in some mountains.

More than 12 inches of rain already have fallen in parts of the Santa Monica Mountains near Los Angeles, and 13 feet of snow has accumulated at Mammoth Mountain ski resort in the Sierra Nevadas.

I wouldn’t take any chances with La Nina. She looks very determined.

Just a light drizzle here in Huntington Beach. Bracing for the next 24 hours.

Keeping all who live in danger areas in my prayers as well as those who have to endanger themselves to do their jobs.

Stay safe....

Ton of snow up here in the High Sierra. Actually, Mammoth Mountain has received 15 1/2 feet of snow so far, and more is on the way.

Light drizzle can equal danger?

So like for the Atlantic and Gulf coastals, we all gonna chip in thru insurance premiums and taxes and help Cullyforneeyahns rebuild in place so we can read similar headlines about similar destruction a few years from now?

When I bought my current home, I made sure it wasn’t in a flood plain. I’m about 300 feet higher than the town propper, but not in mountains or canyons. My street drains good, I have a tile roof and no drainage problems.

I appears to be getting worse as the day wears on. And, indeed, it's raining where I am, though it did let up briefly earlier. My experience is that it gets worse at night. I'm with you; I'd like a bit of a break.

And most of them have never been here. They have no clue what it is really like here. As a rule, I only bash states that I have actually spent some time in.
