Last-Ditch Move to Block Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ Fails

12:18 a.m. | Updated Just hours before President Obama planned to sign on Wednesday the repeal of the military’s 17-year ban on gays serving openly in the armed forces, Republicans tried one last legislative maneuver to block the change.

Republicans in the Senate filed an amendment to a sweeping defense authorization bill that would have required the four military service chiefs to be part of the certification process called for in the bill that repeals the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

That would have put Marine Corps chief General James Amos, a vocal opponent of the repeal, in line to delay or potentially prevent its implementation. The amendment was filed late Tuesday to the defense measure, which could be voted on in the Senate on Wednesday.

But Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senator Mitch McConnell, the Senate minority leader from Kentucky, said late Tuesday night that an objection from a senator had been registered to the last-minute amendment and that it would not be included as part of the defense authorization bill.

A local Marine due for discharge in April had intended to re/up but with DADT now law he says none of his peers will re/up. They all had intended to until this.

This is a repeat of what I posted on the effects of DADT repeal:

1. Will sodomy, consensual or otherwise, be dropped from the Uniform Code of Military Justice?

2. Will STD/HIV/AIDS be considered as happening “in line of duty” to justify service connected disabilities to be treated and compensated by the Dept of Veterans Affairs?

3. If two gays are married, will they be eligible for base housing as would other married couples?

If DADT is allowed to continue, the military will become the homos dream of the largest “bath house” in the world, cost nothing and maintained by the US taxpayers.

...And since the language in the repeal includes “transgendered” will we see men in women’s uniforms and women in “mens”?? Will the transgendered men be allowed to bunk with women and use their restrooms?

“3. If two gays are married, will they be eligible for base housing as would other married couples? “

If so, expect “domestic violence” and child molestation to go up considerably in base housing.
