General Motors Co. is recalling almost 100,000 vehicles to fix two problems that could cause the rear axle to lock and the passenger-side airbag not to work.

They’re probably all owned by government employees.
Now THERE’S a couple of related problems.
Gotta love that high quality work by union members!
The car could unexpectantly swerve to the far left and the radio won't play conservative talk radio?
Hmmmm.
And remember, if you or a loved one gets killed due to these defects, you cannot sue GM. Obama gave them immunity.
I wonder if this will be all over LMSM like Toyota, et al are??
Yeah, you’d never see that from Toyota

“Theyre probably all owned by government employees.”
I read that some of their smaller cars for 2011 will be MADE IN CHINA. IF anyone decides to buy a Government Motors car make sure you don’t get one Made in China!
Wouldn’t know, would never own a toyota. But it does not really have anything to do with Government Motors does it?
Couldn’t be happier with my Nissan Titan!
GM makes cars???
You must be one of the few happy customers.
(last full year sales)
Titan sales plunged to 19,042 trucks last year, down 44 percent from 2008. Ram sales fell 28 percent to 177,268, the Ford F series fell 20 percent to 413,625, and the Chevrolet Silverado dropped 32 percent to 316,544.

On the plus side, my windstar with a broken axle sits at ford while they pay for a brand new Toyota.. Oddly, it's missing floor mats.
I don’t care what you say! I like that little car, just strap one to each foot and off you go.
I think it’s time to buy another Jeep, an old one-like around 1972-75 vintage. They were simple with a minimum of moving parts. Cars today have way too many moving parts. More moving parts means more broken parts. I broke a motor mount on my old jeep on my way to college and fixed it with a length of chain I had on hand and a cable tensioner I picked up at the nearest Ace Hardware for less than a dollar. A year later, I broke the clutch linkage in the middle of winter. I fixed it in a matter of minutes with another cable tensioner and a little bailing wire. try doing that with a new car made anywhere.
Union Made!
I would buy a Toyota or Honda before I would buy anything made by an overpaid union worker. Bet we won’t hear about the recall of POS GM vehicles on the nightly news.
I’ll keep my Mustang Mach 1. It only seats 2 comfortably & won’t go in snow. But it is one fast fun car to drive.
GM has a large operation in China and at some point will import some to the US I’d venture. Here’s a number from the first 11 months of 2010:
From January through November, GMs China sales jumped 33 percent to a mind-blowing 2.17 million units. GM China will most likely close out the year in the 2.35 to 2.4m area this is higher than the total sales of some of Europes larger countries, and definitely a whole lot more than GM sells back home.
Just got the recall notice for my Windstar last week.
Remember how GM beat Toyota and other car makers into a pulp for having their issues. The shoe is on the other foot this time. Will those other car makers take their opportunities to get a free shot on GM?
They recall a 100,000? GM’s got a good memory.
You can bet on it!
Given for the most part they’re Cadillacs, I hope not.
" Through the first seven months of the year, 31 per cent of GM sales were to fleet customers, such as rental car companies, government agencies and commercial operators. That compares with less than 10 per cent for import brands such as Honda and Toyota.

I noticed the same. No questions from the writer? Maybe they didn't know enough to probe with further inquiry? I'm going to assume the writer likely knows about as much about the real nuts & bolts of the automotive world as the typical "news writer" does about small arms (guns).
The quality of union labor on full display again.
Well my computer refuses to open any link with msnbc in it so I guess I’ll never know what models they are recalling. Good thing is I only buy Fords.
I want THE HIGHEST Government Officer on trial and put in jail for this.
What bothers me most is if they MAKE GMs in Red China, but sell them in the U.S., and that’s what they intend to do in 2011.
I wouldn’t buy a govt. motors car, but for those who do, I hope they will at least make sure the car was not made in Red China. If they get away with this, we won’t have any jobs left in the U.S., and the way to stop it is to not buy Chinese-Made cars.
I’m not against free trade, but Red China is our enemy, and they have been trying for a long time to get the U.S. automobile market.
This calls for another letter to the editor to warn people, and call a talk show.
Union made vehicles including Fords are Tax Burners.
Be American, don’t buy a Tax Burner
Me too. I found out they announced the recall in August. And now the parts won't be available till February or March?
I wouldn’t buy a Chinese-made car irrespective of who the manufacturer was. That said, you can’t blame GM for trying to get away from the U.S. unions. Ford just opened the largest, most automated plant they’ve ever built (in Brazil I believe). The article on it stated that Ford would never build another manufacturing plant in the U.S. The fact of the matter is that the Big Three are going to get out of this country all together, and while that’s sad, it’s easy to understand their thinking. Unions have sealed their own fate. In their “me, me, me, it’s all about me” attitude they have virtually assured their own extinction. My only issue is that the past leadership of these businesses personally made lots of money while insuring the ultimate demise of their operations by their failure as managers and they screwed their investors at the same time.
Get it checked. you get piece of mind if it passes. a brand new rental if it doesn’t.
not only are they using our money to make cars less safe and more expensive, I am out of work because they are now buy automation equipment and conveyors from korea, china, japan and germany. I owe no allegience to the big 3.
You are correct. When mine broke 2 months ago They said late jan. Now, they are pushing it back ever farther due to the expanded recall.
If yours fails, ford says they will pay for the rental for 90 days. On day 91 Ford will KEEP paying for my rental or it won’t be pretty.
Also, ford is renting ONLY from enterprise. Good luck finding a van, SUV, wagon or anything bigger than a mazda 6. Between Ford, Fedex, and the holidays Enterprise has been pulling large cars/vans/trucks out of their for sale fleet to meet demand.
If you need a van or large suv it might be a good idea to have it inspected someplace OTHER than ford. You have to sign your life away if they deem it unsafe to get the van back.
If your van is a 1998-2000 you will likely be offered kelly blue book private party in excellent condition as a buy out. They will put you in a rental while the buy out details are worked out.
That must be because of gas. I get 12 city and 17 hwy. Also, Nissan tends to have a longer life than “American” models, so the plumet could be because those who bought them love them so much that they have no desire to wander. The gas is heavy on the pocketbook, but my firefighter husband has seen too many little cars with elite safety systems get crushed in accidents. If I had it to do all over again, I’d get another one. I can’t tell you how much I love my truck. It drives well, rides well, and I’ve never had a single issue with it. We’ve not had to do a thing to it except regular maintenance.
Good for you. I’m glad you got a good one. Around here they are referred to as the Nissan “Titanic”.
Wow. You are literally the very first person that I’ve ever heard talk poorly of the Titan. Well, other than the Gorbalites of course. I would only mar my Red Alert finish with one thing: A bumper sticker that says “I heart (the shape not the word) my carbon footprint”.
Also, our other truck is a Nissan. A 1996 Nissan 4X4 XE. She’s ugly as hell, but has been paid off for over a decade and we’ve only invested into her basic maintenance as well. We just use her for hauling and local trips. She sits at the firehouse for 24 hours at a time when my husband is at work. We don’t take her on trips longer than 30 minutes one way, simply because we want to make her last as long as possible. When I’m done with grad school we’re going to look into Honda Ridgeline for my husband.
“I wouldnt buy a Chinese-made car irrespective of who the manufacturer was. That said, you cant blame GM for trying to get away from the U.S. unions. Ford just opened the largest, most automated plant theyve ever built (in Brazil I believe). ....”
I see what you are saying, but why did GM choose Red China, possibly our worst enemy. Between interest on the loans, and not being able to buy much that isn’t Produced in Red China, we are helping them build their military stronger and stronger.
Then Red China “thanks” us by possibly poisoning our children with leaded toys, our pets, drugs, etc..
Mine is a 2003, luckily I don't need a van anymore. I was hoping they would buy me out so I could get something else.
At least a 90 day rental would give me time to find another vehicle.
