The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Wednesday asked federal health officials to ensure that Catholic hospitals provide emergency reproductive care to pregnant women, saying the refusal by religiously affiliated hospitals to provide abortion and other services is an increasing problem.

In a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the ACLU cited the case of St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, which was stripped of its Catholic status Tuesday because doctors performed an abortion on a woman with a life-threatening complication.

"We continue to applaud St. Joseph's for doing what is right by standing up for women's health and complying with federal law," five ACLU attorneys wrote in a letter to Donald Berwick, the CMS administrator, and his deputy. "But this confrontation never should have happened in the first place, because no hospital — religious or otherwise — should be prohibited from saving women's lives and from following federal law."

The letter was a follow-up to a complaint the ACLU sent in July asking for investigation of similar issues at Catholic hospitals across the country, including refusals to provide emergency contraception to rape victims or perform abortions on women having miscarriages.

"The dioceses cannot be permitted to dictate who lives and who dies in Catholic-owned hospitals," the letter states.

Catholics need to shut down every hospital, parochial school, adoption service, and charity and dump it on the federal government.

Then, at 24-30% of the population, they need to declare themselves a minority and start demanding everything they can from the government - jobs, promotions, affirmative action, school admissions, tax exemptions, reparations for all the bigotry and discrimination of the past by the Klan, the Know Nothings, etc. etc.

What does abortion have to do with health care?

Since when is it federal law to force medical personnel to commit or assist in committing an abortion?

It’s always been a leftist pipe-dream to force medical personnel with consciences to commit abortion. But, so far, it is not law.

The idea here is to force Catholics to choose between following their religion or keeping their job. Many will choose their job. This is the liberals’ goal.

“Don’t just remove the Catholic name, close them down entirely. Catholic hospitals are 1/4 of our health care system. If they want to play hardball, go Galt on them.”

If these illogical ‘thinkers’ get their way, there will be no more CATHOLIC hospitals and then the government will have to financially support what remains....completely.

Closing Catholic hospitals would cause a “crisis” and the Feds will take them over like they were GM. Which was the plan all along.

Notice that the left, at urging of their ideological “father” to be sure,

has picked a couple of issues where the accepted norm to be enforced by the state is in direct conflict with Christian teaching - abortion and homosexuality.

The objective is to criminalize Christian beliefs and persecute Christians to the point where there is no Christian influence in society.

Come Lord Jesus.

Im a Catholic. As far as Im concerned, much of what the Church is reaping in America, it sowed itself. Think “Kennedy Catholic.”. Or Pelosi. Or Biden. Or sebelius. Or napolitano. Just the few that come to mind with little effort.

In fact, most of what the Church is reaping in America is being done ti by Catholics. Can’t be whining about persecution yet.

No use “whining” about it, because we’ve been warned that it’s coming.

I was just stating that that is the objective of these issues.

Would Catholic Hospitals be exempt from Federal intervention is they did not accept Medicare/Medicaid patients?

The people who give money to ACLU are evil.

Some of their money comes from the courts when they win a case or get reimbursed for their costs.

They will someday be held accountable.
