The Middlesex County District Attorney's office this morning says an officer responding to an attempted robbery at a Kohl's Department Store last night was shot and killed, as was one of the suspects in the holdup. A second suspect has been taken into custody.

Investigators say the incident started when of the suspects tried to steal some jewelry. They have not released the name of the officer or the suspects.

Meanwhile, Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone issued a statement saying, "This is a horribly tragic incident in which an officer was fatally shot in the line of duty. We continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and will update the public with information as it is developed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family at this time."

I’m sure the DA will be forthcoming with all the prior convictions of the suspects/guilty perps.

Either fry them or throw away the key.

This is sad....RIP...and prayers to the officers family

Is Mass. a Death Penalty state, or, a Criminal Rights state? It would be tragic if the other perp involved is not executed.

This one of those stories that is more sad than stupid but just barely. I like Kohl's but there is nothing in their jewelry case worth going to prison over and certaily nothing worth anyone's life.

A police detective once told me that "there is no entrance exam for a life of crime". These knucklehead prove that.

Too bad Massachusetts doesn't have the death penalty.

Stealing jewelery from Kohl's Department Store?

There are a few things I would risk my life for but this is not one of them (referring to the perps).

Prayers for the officer and family.

Aren’t firearms illegal in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts? How do you suppose the perps got around this restriction?
