The Middlesex County District Attorney's office this morning says an officer responding to an attempted robbery at a Kohl's Department Store last night was shot and killed, as was one of the suspects in the holdup. A second suspect has been taken into custody.
Investigators say the incident started when of the suspects tried to steal some jewelry. They have not released the name of the officer or the suspects.
Meanwhile, Middlesex County District Attorney Gerry Leone issued a statement saying, "This is a horribly tragic incident in which an officer was fatally shot in the line of duty. We continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting and will update the public with information as it is developed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the officer's family at this time."

I’m sure the DA will be forthcoming with all the prior convictions of the suspects/guilty perps.
Either fry them or throw away the key.
And the nearby city of Billerica is pronounced “B’rica”.

Is Mass. a Death Penalty state, or, a Criminal Rights state? It would be tragic if the other perp involved is not executed.
UPDATE:Two were arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Scott Hanwright, 19, of Wakefield, was charged with first degree murder and armed robbery. Kevin Dingwell, 51, of Wakefield, was charged with accessory after the fact, Woburn Police Chief Philip Mahoney said.
A police detective once told me that "there is no entrance exam for a life of crime". These knucklehead prove that.
Too bad Massachusetts doesn't have the death penalty.
May God grant His mercy and a place in Heaven to the slain officer.May the family know their loved one died a hero.
There are a few things I would risk my life for but this is not one of them (referring to the perps).
Prayers for the officer and family.
