A 4000 hour light will only last a little over a year if used 10 hours a day. I am fairly sure my lights are on this much 6 months of the year.

The stores now sell 95-watt incandescent light bulbs.

Put a CFC in a ceiling fan light and the strobe effect will make you fall down.

We've had CFCs in our ceiling fans for years and never fell down.

Where am I to get replacement incandescent bulbs for my child's Easy Bake oven? I don't imagine fluorescent bulbs would work.

You don’t get an obvious strobe effect when the fan is on with a CFC?

Based on the analysis above, I can afford for my halogens to die three times faster than rated, and still come out cash ahead.

“Will neighbors be reporting each other if they spot a regular old lightbulb at someone’s home?”

why yes, of course...that’s the next logical step for the green police....neighbors turning in neighbors...children turning in parents.

GE makes these great full spectrum incandescent light bulbs called “Reveal”. I will be stocking up on them and the regular incandescent bulbs

I cannot and will not read under fluorescent light. Though I have no problem with the normal 48” fluorescents in my kitchen and garage.

There will be bootleg bulbs available.
Just like the low tax cigarettes that are sold out of car trunks nationwide, LOL

California will soon probably have the Light Bulb Police, special trained snoops who ride around at night to spot homes with decent interior lighting to identify those still using incandescent bulbs. Not sure if the use of the old bulbs will be illegal in California on 1/1/2011, but it probably will be at some point.

When light bulbs are banned only outlaws will have them.

Do you live in the sun belt? If so, you might even be able to add some air conditioning savings.

If you live anywhere with a heating season (the snow belt, all of Canada, all of Alaska, etc.); then you should not expect to save as much. The heating and lighting seasons overlap where I live, and I use electric heat. My savings from switching to CFL, halogen, or LEDs = $0.00/bulb/year. The one exception being my porch light, which does not contribute to heating the house.

Once we have a few people in Congress who have actually shopped for and changed a light bulb, commensense just might return.
