New Jersey residents are digging out of a blizzard that dumped nearly three feet of snow in some areas, stranded motorists for hours and closed dozens of roads.
New tallies put Union County at the epicenter of the storm, where 31.8 inches of snow fell in Elizabeth, according to National Weather Service estimates. Roselle residents are contending with nearly 29 inches and Union and Clark are under 27 inches of powder.
"This is the worst snowfall since January '97 when we recorded 33 inches,'' Elizabeth Mayor J. Christian Bollwage said.
He said public works crews plowing since last night have opened up all the streets. Before heading to City Hall, he spent nearly 2 1/2 hours this morning digging out his driveway where he said the drifts reached more than 4-foot heights in some spots.
"Our priority is opening up routes to the hospital, the seaport and the mall and making sure people can get to work,'' said Bollwage.

Mercy! How much snow did northern New Jersey get last year when so many areas got more than 30 inches?
I’m glad to see that our President is right on top of the crisis and is deeply in touch with the suffering of millions of Americans.
I believe Elizabeth NJ got that much in the January 1996 snowstorm also.
Maybe their gauge is broken.
Maybe they get additional funds when they get record snowfalls. ;)
Good. They deserve it. They whacked Tony.
The First Family is being careful not to be photographed sunning and splashing in the surf, as they well might.
Very good question.
Last February we got 7 feet over 2 days. NJ had to have had received at least half of that.
That sign indicates Neptune and Asbury Park. Snow there was about 1.5 feet, and most likely .9% thorazine.
Where is we?
How did you ladies fare?

If the poor man had a glass of water, or God forbid was caught eating dinner or something, the media would savage him for "not paying attention!"
The hypocrisy is just breath taking.
I'd love to see some Italian grandmother stuck on the NJ Turnpike to take to the airwaves and accuse Obama of "not caring about White people" (a la Kayne West).

I live in that area, and the gauge was not broken! I’d guess 2 1/2 feet without drifts. Nasty wind gusts all day long, making digging that much more difficult.
Chris Christie is MIA (and so is the state’s first-ever lieut. gov.) so the acting-governor is the senate president, a Democrat. I’m a fan of Christie so I’m concerned the media will lay the blame for the slow clean-up at his feet. NYC mayor John Lindsay kissed his re-election good-bye because eastern Queens wasn’t plowed for almost a week in the late 1960s. (Bloomie’s missing, too, btw.)
Hard to tell with all the drifting, but I think we got 15 inches where I live. Wind is still howling and with the sun going down now, the roads are freezing up again.
Looks like the bastard commie pig 0b0z0’s golf game still hasn’t improved any in the last two years of R&R, no matter how much he plays. It’s tough to convert over from being a girlie boy! He still can’t hit the ball straight and it looks like he spends most of his time hitting out of the trees. What a putz 0b0z0 is!
We got about 2.5’ in Millburn, Essex County NJ

I was in Queens for that, staying with my grandmother in flushing. I was just a little kid, but even I was aware of the rage and frustration people felt. It was just in the air, the anger was palpable.
So, I have two rules that I will always obey if I ever decide to take over the world.
1. Don’t invade Russia.
2. Plow the snow.
Yeah, and in Hawaii you could console yourself knowing your close proximity to Dear Leader!
