Rose Parade float honors Ronald Reagan
Whittier Daily News ^ | Dec. 22, 2010 | Frank C. Girardot

PASADENA - The centennial celebration of Ronald Reagan's birthday begins New Year's Day, when a float dedicated to the 40th president will make its way down Colorado Boulevard.

The 55-foot-long float is designed by Fiesta of Irwindale. It features a 26-foot-high bald eagle and 11 black-and-white photographs of Reagan, which will be decorated with onion seeds, poppy seeds and crushed sweet rice.

"President Reagan always believed America's best days were ahead. At a time when many Americans look forward to a New Year with a similar optimism and pride, we at the Reagan Foundation are honored to be invited to participate in the 122nd Rose Parade," said Stewart McLaurin, executive director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation.

Jelly Belly is co-sponsor of the float.
Awwwww....:^)

And, in some ways the 40th president was the quintessential Californian. "That's one of the things that the foundation had in mind," Harmsen said. "His roots were here and the Rose Parade is a present to the country and the world - and a great way to kick off the celebration of the centennial of Reagan's birth in February."

The company which I worked for in a former life represented Jelly Belly in Japan. They were a great organization and made a superb product. Any other jelly bean tastes like sugar and wax by comparison.

Sort of like any leader we've had since Reagan has been mediocre at best and some (like BO) have been downright awful.

Jelly Belly’s obviously an outstanding, solidly American, company to sponsor and build this float. This parade represents the best of America in so many ways, also incomprehensible to the liberals.

There was an office supply company, one of the bulk sellers not the one with retail outlets, that acually had a full page thanking jimmy carter! That catalogue went to the garbage an near sonic barrier levels.

Awesome! A float honoring America's greatest President. :-)

I wish I could see this float up close. I was lucky to attend a post-parade "viewing" of the Rose Parade floats a few years ago... these floats are incredible works of art! Seeing them in person gave me a far greater appreciation for the intricate work involved... each one is really spectacular.

Thanks, La Enchiladita for the heads up on this one!

Excerpt from article:

The 55-foot-long float is designed by Fiesta of Irwindale. It features a 26-foot-high bald eagle and 11 black-and-white photographs of Reagan, which will be decorated with onion seeds, poppy seeds and crushed sweet rice.

The Simi Valley-based Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library will be in partnership with Jelly Belly as sponsors of the float, officials said.

“America's greatest President”

This needs to be repeated again and again. Especially with his 100th b-day approaching.

People need to see the difference between class (RR) and diarrhea (Soetoro).

Which is why the left still scorns him. He beat them at their own media game by going around the media and right to the American people. Besides his 1987 amnesty deal (nobody's perfect) he was truly the greatest 20th century President.

The current occupant of our WH isn’t worth mentioning relative to America nor would 98% of this Congress.

It would be wonderful to believe as Reagan did that America’s best days are ahead. Maybe we need to go thru the present period like the alcoholic who needs to hit bottom before rebounding. But right now it sure does feel like we’re at the bottom with no place to go but up.

Actually, it's not....nothing until a slight chance of spritz on January 2.

Wifey and I drove through there during the monsoon last week and passed a Tournament of Roses 'official car' on the Interstate....the guy driving it looked really nervous, as if he were thinking about the New Year's forecast.

Thanks for pinging your “people” to the topic, Nutmeg, and may I say Happy New Year to you. I think we want the same kind of happiness, yes? For America to get back on track.

Anyway, I always get excited about the parade and think about going. Then I think of how cold and crowded, getting there early, waiting, etc., and I chicken out. The TV coverage is so wonderful and home is so cozy, LOL!!

However, if we had an FR section on the route, I would re-consider.....:)

The best, period. There will never be another.

People talk about where they were when they heard the news about Pearl Harbor or JFK getting shot. I remember every detail of when I got the phone call that RR died.

Sad, still to this day.

Even sadder when you look at the piece of sh*t occupying 1600 Penn. Ave. today.

Oh yes. It was a gorgeous (weather-wise) day in Rockport, MA where I was. Then the call came in. Then major sadness set in.

One thing I'm grateful for, he died when a Republican was in office. The thought of any sh*tbag Rat presiding over any of his funeral/ceremony is unthinkable.

Personally, I would not have let any Rats attend any of the services, but that's me. They spit at and mocked him when he was here, then they want to pretend they respected him after he's dead? Go piss up a rope, Rats.
