The Red and Blue States' Fort Sumter (EPA vs. Texas)
American Spectator ^ | December 28, 2010 | William Tucker

Posted on 12/28/2010 4:50:45 AM PST by reaganaut1

The opening shot of the War Between the Red and Blue States may have been fired last Friday when the Environmental Protection Administration announced its intention to take over Texas's authority on issuing clean air permits to new industrial facilities as of January 2.

It is hard to imagine a more stark confrontation between public and private sector-oriented economies. Texas has the strongest economy in the nation, based on its philosophy of limited government. The Texas Legislature convenes only in odd-numbered years is constitutionally limited to meeting only 140 days. Until this year, Texas has had a budget surplus and still has $7.5 billion in a rainy-day fund created by voters in 1988. During 2006 and 2007, Texas created 52 percent of all new jobs in the nation, according to a study done by the Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business. People are flocking to the state so fast that Texas will gain four seats in the House of Representatives in the new decade.

Washington, on the other hand, has run up a trillion-dollar budget deficit and destroyed private-sector jobs all over the country while expanding the government and presiding over 10 percent unemployment. The states on the East and West Coast that adhere most closely to Washington's philosophy are approaching insolvency. Yet they continue to pursue dreamy energy agendas, trying to close down existing power plants and refusing to build new ones while planning for a world running on windmills and solar collectors.

Now Washington is going to try to impose this blue-state agenda on Texas. The struggle will dwarf the Arizona-versus-Washington contest over immigration.

"Texas won’t be the only state to split."

It wouldn't surprise me to se TX and OK do it on the same day as a show of unity. I swear I'm headed for TX or OK some day...I hope they'll welcome two conservatives looking to WORK for a living.

War for Independence - win
2nd War for Independence - loss

Tie breaker?

Talk of secession always gets the collectivists’ panties in a wad,

because it is THE trump card that foils all their control freak fantasies.

Two aspects of human (sin) nature that make up the leftist ideology:
1) desire to control others
2) desire to live at the expense of others

EPA vs Texas ping.

During 2006 and 2007, Texas created 52 percent of all new jobs in the nation

This is what ticks obozo and DC off and they want to stop it now.

Not exactly Fort Sumter, since Fort Sumpter was federal property taken-over by the south. This is just the opposite, the federal government trying to take over the air and private business in Texas.

obammy is indeed clueless—until it comes to taxes. As soon as he figures out that we don’t have a state income tax, he will figure a way to tax Texans with a special tax equal to what we would bring in with a state income tax.......

The governor should say “The EPA has made its decision. Now lets see them enforce it.” Then notify the Texas Rangers to deal with any EPA or Judicial types that DO try to enforce this cr@p.

I guess you’ve heard the state legislature is talking about raising the fuel taxes, since it has been the same since 1991. They need more funds for road upkeep. I guess the toll roads are not enough.

If they actually use the extra money for roads, I don’t mind. That is—if they use the money for other than toll roads—which I never use.

There are a lot of secondary roads that could use some work, though.

Having said all of that—I can hardly drive more than 15 miles in any direction before I hit road construction!

Guess it’s keeping people employed.............

Secession? Watch out for the wrath of the Yankee revisionists. They hate that proposition.’

They need to look in the mirror to see the source of most of these problems.
Let them look at what ‘their representatives & Senators’ vote for.

I hear you about secondary roads needing some improvements. Last year TXDOT resurfaced 1431 from just outside Cedar Park to west of Lago Vista.

Well, now they are adding right turn lanes several places. I don't understand why they did not do that before putting down the new pavement.

They probably didn’t do the turn lanes at the same time because it’s another set of union stooges who do the turn lanes—LOL!

I was born and raised in Texas. Recently, I saw a bumber sticker that said “ I’m from Texas. What country are your from?” Truth is, Texas has never considered itself subservient to the U.S. government.
