Barack Obama lets his faith show
By: Carol E. Lee December 28, 2010 04:28 AM EST
HONOLULU President Obamas trip to church Sunday followed a steady rebirth over the past three months in public expressions of his Christianity.
Obama has publicly mentioned his Christian faith more times in the past three months than he has over the past year. He has more frequently cited passages of the Bible, including repeated references to the spirit of Genesis 4:9 I am my brothers keeper; I am my sisters keeper which was a mainstay of Obamas 2010 campaign stump speech. And hes taken his family to church twice, a shift for a president who has preferred to worship privately since the end of the 2008 campaign.
He presents his Christianity as an important aspect of his identity but one he doesnt want to foist upon anyone else, and he would rather risk downplaying it than offending somebody, said Jeffrey Siker, a theology professor at Loyola Marymount University, who has studied Obamas use of the Bible in his speeches.
One recurring phrase and Ive noticed this frequently of late this notion that we are our brothers keepers, which is kind of a mantra for him, Siker added, noting that Obama would see the notion of being our brothers keeper as something that crosses all religious lines.
Obama has used the reference, which was a regular feature of his on the 2008 campaign trail, in two dozen speeches since September. Before then, hed used it just four times as president. References to his Christian faith also have appeared more times in Obamas speeches since September than they did before.

Its a great system
Obama pretends to be a Christian, the media pretends to believe him, and they all expect us to believe them
Phony is as phony does
No true Christian would take the positions he does. Nor would they avoid church like the plague.
He posturing for re-election. Obama is not a Christian.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
“Obama pretends to be a Christian, the media pretends to believe him, and they all expect us to believe them.”
Herr Goebbles would be proud!
Before the President makes a fool out of himself yet again, someone should tell him what Genesis 4:9 is about. And it has nothing to do with welfare.
is half black a faith?
He pretends to be his brothers’ keeper and the media pretends to believe him on that too.
So was Hitler. I’m not saying Obama is a Hitler, just saying he is not Christian.
An article in “The American Thinker” on October 31 already pointed out the error in Obama’s “Brothers Keeper” schtick:
The Real Meaning of ‘My Brother’s Keeper’
By Matthew Eckel
This is such an elementary point that I fear making it will seem silly. On the other hand, so many people seem so completely in the dark about it that it is worth stating the obvious. Claiming to be “my brother’s keeper,” as President Obama is so wont to spout, is an insult to the brother!
I suppose the confusion is perfectly understandable since most of us encounter the phrase in its English translation and not the original Hebrew, and numerous otherwise-well-meaning organizations have taken it as their motto. See here, here, and here for examples. After all, Webster’s Third New International Dictionary defines “to keep” as “to watch over and defend esp. from danger, harm, or loss.” But Webster’s also defines “to keep” as “to restrain from departure” and “to retain or continue to have in one’s possession or power.” So which meaning does “brother’s keeper” have in its original usage?
The phrase comes, of course, from Genesis, chapter 4 — God’s devastating interrogation of Cain after Cain killed Abel out of rank jealousy. God asks Cain innocently, “Where is your brother, Abel? [i]” Cain replies, “I don’t know,” and asks, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Now, some of us grew up aping that catchy margarine slogan, “it’s not nice to fool Mother Nature,” so we can immediately recognize that it is probably not a great idea to try to deceive the Creator of heaven and earth, especially just after you did something He warned you not to do. God, of course, is not amused and curses Cain, who ends up lamenting, “My punishment is more than I can bear.”
But what was Cain actually saying when he uttered those words to God? The Hebrew word used here for “keeper” means more than “protector” or “defender”; it is more akin to “overseer” or “master,” as in “keeping” sheep (1 Samuel 17:20, 22); royal wardrobes (2 Kings 22:14); the king’s forest (Nehemiah 2:3, 3:29); gates (1 Chronicles 9:19); vineyards (Song of Solomon 1:6); and the temple threshold (Jeremiah 52:24) [ii]. Although these jobs are foreign to most of us, we can get the sense of them by thinking “zookeeper” or “doorkeeper.”
Now, if you think that treating your brother like a dumb animal, a clothes collection, a tree, a gate, a vine, or a doorway is charitable, then consider the context — Cain was wise-assing God! Cain wasn’t responsibly pondering, “Am I my brother’s noble defender?” He was saying, “How the hell do I know where he is? It’s not in my job description to keep track of him!” It was meant to shame God into replying, “On no, of course you aren’t. I’m so sorry I asked.” Simply put, Cain’s rhetorical sneer is not the query of a loving, responsible brother, but the bald bluster of a brutal murderer.
Look, the pages of American Thinker are hardly the place to get into a theological debate about the meaning of obscure biblical phrases, but you need to know that when a die-hard leftist appropriates a wise-ass remark made by the archetypal murderer, he is really showing you more about himself than he would like. He’s really saying, “It’s my job (because I take it upon myself) to keep these people in line because they are unthinking, inanimate, and helpless objects which are frankly more like property than equals.” If that is what Obama really thinks of the American people, then we can only hope we escape his brotherly affections.
He actually misquotes it in the exact opposite of the spirit of the passage, in which Cain protests that he is not his brother's keeper.
Obama pretends to be a Christian, the media pretend to be reporters.
Muslims are allowed to lie to unbelievers in order to defeat them. The two forms are:
Taqiyya - Saying something that isn’t true.
Kitman - Lying by omission. An example would be when Muslim apologists quote only a fragment of verse 5:32 (that if anyone kills “it shall be as if he had killed all mankind”) while neglecting to mention that the rest of the verse (and the next) mandate murder in undefined cases of “corruption” and “mischief.”
But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.
He doesn't pretend. Check out his brother's very well kept shack in Kenya.
“I think he said, ‘blessed are the cheese makers’”
Just who said, “Am I my brothers’ keeper?” and why is important.
EXACTLY! And pro abortion barry doesn’t know that but Christians do.
No serious Christian would legislate for the killing of nascent human life.
Wake me up when he takes the instructions and then is baptized in a Christian church. Then maybe I'll believe he's a true believer.
If that is what Obama really thinks of the American people, then we can only hope we escape his brotherly affections.
I detect the contempt for the American people every time obama speaks. kinda like a trigger for me since i read his book where he considered working in the private sector ‘behind enemy lines’
>> the media pretends to believe him,
Yeah, and now they’re espousing the virtues of Christianity.
Oh gag me with a collection plate.
Obama gets the quote wrong, he repeatedly mentions his religion, and the press is ga ga because he’s “not trying to force his religion on anyone.” Anyone think Sarah Palin would get the same treatment?
I am my brothers keeper
I don’t have any problem with that. Where we differ is that I don’t think he should have the opportunity to require me to be his brother’s keeper. I’ve got enough of my own brothers.
The spirit of lies, working overtime. This clown must have got in line early for the mark of the obamabeast.
"I'm just an innocent little snake, Eve."
Just like Clinton was a pretend Christian also. He walked out of a funeral seervice for someone - I think was guy he had killed in Bosnia - walked out of church and began laughing at a joke, when he saw repoters across the street became real solumn real fast.
Can you say, "Hypocrite?"
I knew you could.
Pretty much says it all.
I think Obama read the same Bible that Willie Nelson read when he did his comically anti-Bible snip for “We are the World”. The Bible of “I think it’s in the Bible somewhere”, the one that has that verse about “God helps those who help themselves” in it... Yeah, that Bible.
This is what he REALLY thinks about the Bible...
and “We are no longer a Christian Nation...” he ends up bashing the Bible.
Also take note, and remind people, that he NEVER refers to the Bible as the “HOly Bible” - but he ALWAYS refers to the Koran, not at the Koran - but the “HOLY Koran”
And let no one forget that his first speech as president was IN EYGPT! (Celebrating their mutual Islamic victory?) He quotes sacred Islamic passages that only Muslims are allowed to - he relates the wild story about the midnight ride of Mohammed and expresses his belief and reverence of it.
I send greetings to those observing Kwanzaa.Bush's Kwanzaa greeting
Celebrated by millions across the world, Kwanzaa honors the history and heritage of Africa. This seven-day observance is an opportunity for individuals of African descent to remember the sacrifices of their ancestors and reflect on the Nguzo Saba. Kwanzaa's seven social and spiritual principles offer strength and guidance to meet the challenges of each new day.
During this joyous time of year, Americans renew our commitment to hope, understanding, and the great promise of our Nation. In honoring the traditions of Africa, Kwanzaa strengthens the ties that bind individuals in communities across our country and around the world.
Laura joins me in sending our best wishes for a joyous Kwanzaa.
GEORGE W. BUSH
I wondered if someone would pick up on that BS from Bush.
Oh well. I repeat: What “Christian” issues a racist and phony message like this....
There’s a difference between stating “I am my brother’s keeper” and FORCING others to do be their brother’s keeper at great expense. That involves coercion & the use of force (IRS will arrest you if you don’t pay).
He didn’t even take care of his “Auntie” living in subsidized housing in Boston!!!!
Oh pleeezzzz..... Give us a break.
Uh...where’s the barf warning?
2012 is getting closer and more people than ever think he is an atheist or a Muslim. Time to put on the show. Big bad Mo doesn’t want to give up the gravy train and no way in hell is he giving up Air Force One. He lives on that thing.
This year's DNC "holiday" card.
"Voters, Obama is baptized in the fire of faith."
" Alleluia, Obama's been saved. Thank you, Jesus. Amen."
“we are our brothers keepers, which is kind of a mantra for him”
Yep, we’re our brothers’ keepers except for unborn babies, in which case it is a woman’s right to choose to not keep...
Barack walked from one island to another; first, the seas parted and then he was walking on water...
His religion is Marxism.
