Blizzard Strips Gun Owners of Concealed Carry Privilege(NC)
nannystateliberationfront.net ^ | 28 December, 2010 | NA

The recent blizzard that hammered North Carolina is also taking its toll on the state’s law abiding gun owners. Citizens possessing concealed carry permits who are caught packing heat during the “state of emergency” will be subject to criminal charges, per the state’s firearms law.

On Christmas Day, Lt. Governor Walter Dalton, in consultation with Governor Bev Perdue, called in the National Guard as snow covered every county in the state. Once a state of emergency is declared, concealed carry permits become null and void, and those who aren’t familiar with this bizarre stipulation in the law are subject to arrest and criminal prosecution:

It is also a misdemeanor under North Carolina law for a person to transport or possess, off his or her own premises, a dangerous weapon in an area during a declared state of emergency, or in the vicinity of a riot. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 14-288.7

Can you find any logic in North Carolina’s firearms law for stripping law abiding gun owners of their concealed carry privileges during inclement weather?

Sounds as if the North Carolinians have work to do on this.

A state of emergency should be absolutely when a person needs to defend their life and home from those that wish harm.

A darn stupid law worth ignoring, have to be smart and don’t get caught. Of course too many people think its time to strut around with their pimped out AR platforms like a bunch of gay crossdressers in a gayday float parade.

I think in my state of Alaska if and when a state of emergency was declared we all have to be armed and dangerous.
I know in the days right after 9/11 almost everybody was packing. When I went to work driving a concrete mixer I carried, we had no idea what could happen.

We have to defund the socialist agencies and defang the socialists themselves. Take away their government power toys. For their own safety and the safety of others.

State of Emergency usually proceeds a state of anarchy and that’s precisely when you’ll need protection.

Perhaps the Mentally retarded politicians do not understand that they have nothing to fear from the law-abiding CCW group - but they do have things to fear from the armed criminal element, who don’t give two sh*ts about the law - or an innocent’s life.

Where do we find politicans who are so intellectually devoid of common sense?

After Katrina, me and some neighbors started carrying openly on our hip or via shoulder holster. While I was posting an “Armed Community - Looters Will Be Shot” sign at the entrance to our road, a Florida Trooper cruised by - he smiled and headed out to find an area that might need his protection. Mississippi didn’t consider messing with our weapons in an emergency - on the other hand, New Orleans actively confiscated weapons and we all know how safe that made them...

Indiana was smart enough to include a change in a gun law that was passed last July that denies the government the right to suspend gun rights in situations like this.

It's with out a doubt the most important part of the law.

Ahh, but the 2nd Amendment is alive and well regardless of what the state says. States rights no longer exist. We lost that war in 1865. Those attempting to prosecute at the state level for CC during a State's "state of emergency" should be brought up on Federal charges for denying a citizen's 2nd Amendment rights precisely at a time when those rights are most important for personal safety. After all, it's a Bill of RIGHTS, not a Bill of SUGGESTIONS and the State of North Carolina is still a member of the Republic and is bound by the Constitution.

We have a Republican legislature for the first time in over 100 years. If they can get something passed re: CC in states of emergency maybe they can get Perdue to sign it. Not holding out much hope though.

Ah but one of these groups votes for the mentally retarded politicians, and the other does not. The group the politicians fear is the one they seek to restrain. "Evil", "corrupt", "arrogant", and "greedy" beat out "retarded" on the list of most dominant character traits, but not by much. :(

In NC, they are generally known as ‘Democrats’ and have ruled the state since the 1890’s. Things go haywire when one political organization has power that long. It’s amazing NC isn’t Mexico, given how long one-party rule has lasted here.

Perhaps it’s because there was always a Dixiecrat minority that perhaps restrained the Progressives in the party from really doing their will.

Only criminals need fear the armed citizen.

Perhaps politicians understand better than you how much they should fear citizens bearing guns?

At the time and place violence is most likely, the government’s solution is to disarm those least likely to instigate it, and who are most likely to stop it.

It makes perfect sense to “null and void” 2nd amendment rights during a “state of emergency”.../sarc!!

This is the most idiotic thing I’ve heard—and coming from a southern state too. Then don’t conceal them, pack openly.

In the case of NC, many of them are "enlightened" transplants from the northeast. And busybodies.

STATE OF EMERGENCY!!!!!!!

That’s the exact time that we need to be able to carry weapons, either concealed or exposed.

That is a dangerous law and is designed for only one reason...that is to be able to have the government the ability to take over the freedoms of citizens by any whim in the name of State of Emergency. To do so, the citizens must be disarmed first.

gestapo police state now...sorry but even if you win one the gestapo will come back at you at a different angle.

Unless the entire police department is enrolled as oathkeepers as a requirement of employment, I wouldn’t trust the pig as far as you can kick it.
