The commentary about President Obama's call to the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles regarding that adjudicated dog killer Michael Vick has now reached an apogee of stupidity that strongly suggest that too many otherwise smart people have lost their ability to reason. Obama, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie recounted, said, "'So many people who serve time never get a fair second chance.' He said, 'It's never a level playing field for prisoners when they get out of jail.' And he was happy that we did something on such a national stage that showed our faith in giving someone a second chance after such a major downfall." It helps, I think, that Vick has completed 63.2 percent of his passes and has 20 touchdowns. He is not your average felon.

Dog fighting was Vick's hobby. He had been warned about it. His own father had told him to stop. He persisted because, as with many great athletes, he was never held accountable. A nation of jock-sniffers always looks away when a great athlete does something wrong. Nothing is an important as winning -- we all know that -- and Vick was and is a winner.

Now Vick has punched all the tickets on the road to rehabilitation. He is contrite. He loves pooches. He might even get a dog himself. How much of this is genuine and how much is synthetic I leave to you. But I'll tell you this. Vick got a second chance not because he deserves it but because he can play football. This is the lesson we can all take from this sorry episode. It's one thing to be sorry. It's much better to hit your man in the end zone.

Ok, torture and killing.
If animals are truly property and the owner of that property has property rights, then all animal cruelty laws are wrong. Do you actually believe that? If so then Vick should have not done any prison time at all. Do you believe that too?
That is just the legal side of this horrible matter. I don’t object to Vick getting out of prison, I object to this vile and disgusting sadist being welcomed back into the loving arms of society. Pro football does not have to take him back regardless of whether he has paid his legal dues. That they have shows how degraded society has become, especially when compared to other sports figures who lost there careers over much less.
Although I can’t stand Cohen, he is at least partially right about the jock comment. When OJ was freed a co worker of mine came up to me smiling and just so happy about what happened. I assumed she believed he was not guilty but I was wrong. When I told her I thought he was guilty and the evidence was overwhelming against him she said, “Ohhh, he won’t do it again.” She loved OJ so much he was allowed a murder or two. This woman was white.
Again, that Vick is welcomed back with open arms into society shows how degraded we have become but actually not nearly as much as the fact that we have a pro infanticide, pro euthanasia death panel ahole for Presdent.
Response: No. Our society favors, the pervert, the felon, the disabled, the defective and those who were outcasts in our pre-1960 society. A great historian in 1888 stated; "that there comes a time in the history of every civilization that the people become so pathogically soft and tender that they actually side with those elements of their society that harms them; i.e. criminals."
Then why was he in tears apologizing to the Eagles coach?
No way, Vick is a very good NFL quarterback. Only because of that does he get a second chance.
He is the epotime of a gifted athlete that gets a free pass on life.
If Vick had a bad season this year he would have been gone. Now half the league are kicking themselves for not signing him. Just wait till he is up for free agency.

Exactly. Most serial killers start off with animal torture and killing and then move into the big leagues of human torture and killing. Vick is sick and the NFL are pricks for wanting him back. Its completely disgusting.

No, he shouldn't have gone to jail. No, there shouldn't be a Federal Crime for dog fighting.
I dislike what he did. However, I do thinks that would be considered barbaric, cruel and disgusting to many. Mainly, I hunt. I also use dogs when I hunt, coonhunting, boar hunting, etc.
One day, that will be a crime, because we are raising pets now, instead of raising children. Society is using the word murder to describe what Vick did. When that is a sacred to term used to only humans.
I have to defend Vick, because, in the end, without defending what you own or have, you will be limited to what you can do in the future.
He did his time. What more do people want.

Looks like he jinxed Vick pretty good last night.
And doesn’t look like it will happen, but I wanted to see Vick after the SuperBowl at DisneyLand in Florida with Goofy and Pluto!
Yup, in the NFL, if you lay golden eggs they will not cook your goose, for anything short of provable murder. Gotta keeps the skids greased.

I agree with your opinion. Now that’s he served his time, I would suggest that he work in an animal shelter that tries to save dogs for a while. It might give him insight to all the horrendous cruelty he and his friends caused.
I am absolutely SICK of people using children as an excuse.
Don’t let the kids watch pro ball.
Don’t treat sports stars as role models.
They provide entertainment.
And considering the amount of crimes done by sports stars, how can any rational person look upon sports stars as role models.

The only way to do that is to persuade the children.
I love these Vick posts. It amazes me that people get so charged up over dogs. If he killed rats or ants, no one would care. Even murderers get a chance to work again and they commit pretty evil acts. People do change—evil people change. Read the story of “Amazing Grace” or the story of any other slave dealer who turned to God. Yet everyone is so quick to claim Vick is irredeemable, or is lying about changing, because he hurt dogs. Only God knows if Vick has changed in his heart. Unless someone posting here owns the Philadelphia Eagles, its not up to us to decide whether or not to hire Vick.
He’s no hero, but he served his time. I screwed up over 20 years ago and I got a second chance. It wasn’t playing Quarterback for an NFL team, but it was a second chance. It happens, more than we know, it just doesn’t make the news.
