With E.P.A. Set to Limit Gases, Political Clashes Loom (Don't Fund The EPA)
ny times ^ | 12/30/2010 | By JOHN M. BRODER

With the federal government set to regulate climate-altering gases from factories and power plants for the first time beginning on Sunday, the Obama administration and the new Congress are headed for a clash that carries substantial risks for both sides.

While only the first phase of regulation takes effect on Sunday, the administration is on notice that if it moves too far and too fast in trying to curtail the ubiquitous gases that are heating the planet it risks a Congressional backlash that could set back the effort for years.

But the newly muscular Republicans in Congress could also stumble by moving too aggressively to handcuff the Environmental Protection Agency, provoking a popular outcry that they are endangering public health in the service of their well-heeled patrons in industry.

Does the E.P.A. ever do anything good and decent? Worthwhile, non damaging?

If they are, could not those things be done by another agency that was here before the E.P.A. existed?

Those same questions could be asked about the U.N. and dozens of government agencies.

"Risk" the new congress and those left from the old congress had better do something demonstrative and quick.

Just completely eliminate their budget. We don’t have the money anyway.

Yeah, but not quite the monstrosity it has become.

Endanger the public health? Show me one person who has died from greenhouse gasses. Of course, its not the Greenies need facts to make such outrageous accusations.

A letter to your senators and representatives:

Dear _______________, it has become increasingly obvious that the president intends to use the power of the MANY governmental agencies to bypass the will of the people and Congress. For that reason, it is imperative for Congress to reclaim the power it has abdicated to the executive branch. I propose a simple amendment that be put in EVERY bill voted on by Congress until it passes. The wording is as similar to the following:

“No government agency, organization, or entity created by Congress in the past or future shall have legislative or judicial powers. For the purpose of this amendment, “legislative power” shall be construed to mean the making of any rule violation of which renders a citizen, legal entity, corporation, or company of any state or the United States to imprisonment, fine, excessive or punitive fee, or other punishment. “Judicial power” shall be construed to mean, the holding of any evidentiary hearing not presided over by an Article III court or the issuance of findings which result in imprisonment, fine, or punishment of a citizen, legal entity, corporation, or company of any state or the United States.

Under this law, all current rules implemented by any government agency, organization, or entity created by Congress that has legislative or judiciary powers as defined above will become null and void five years from the date of passage unless approved by normal constitutional means.”

Please consider this carefully.

Sincerely, _____________

Like Unions, the EPA once served a purposes and did some actual work. Today it is a bunch of bureaucrats and needs to be defended and their assets sold off.

The EPA could actually ban the hot air emissions from the political class? Oh, joy!

It was Nixon who created the EPA.

Nixon proposed the Earned Income Tax Credit too, whereby people who don't even pay taxes, get a "refund" anyway. Proposed by Nixon but signed into law by Ford and increased under every administration since, without exception.

The Republicans need to attack the EPA, but need to explain the reasons why and not keep quiet like Bush. They need their most articulate men and women out there. This is a touchy issue because most Americans have little interest in science and even less knowledge.

There is already a few problems here.....

.....It has not been proved that these "ubiquitous gases" cause global warming.

.....So if they move slowly and in measured steps, we should accept the end result?

Congress had better approach this as fighting an enemy. You give them no quarter, you give them no consideration, you fight to win quickly.

DEFUND THE EPA. You cannot let them live and win the war.

If you accept a "battle victory" and allow them to fight more slowly and in smaller steps, we still lose by slowly being strangled.

I agree. The Republicans should wait until the EPA starts closing business and the cost of electricity doubles. This should be right in the middle of 2012. The public will be so angry with the demonic-rats that they will lose every election in every state for every office.

Then we can worry about being too aggressive.

Who do you think the GOP will listen to?

The people or the NY Times?

Hate to say it, NY Times. If they do, they will not see any money from me for the rest of my life. I will continue to give money to NEW candidates I support but all GOP Central funding can just give it up.

Oh, please. As paranoid as Nixon was, you'd expect him if anyone to stop and think "If I empower the government in this way, how could it turn out badly?" and, easily finding an answer, NOT DO IT!

...and the Republicans holding every single office in the nation could STILL figure out some excuse why they weren't repealing every bit of legislation passed, signed, or even read by a Democrat, or the text of which contained the letter "D", as well as half the stuff previous RINO's had passed!

A "popular" outcry? I hardly think so. With absolutely zero evidence that "public health" is "endangered" by greenhouse gases, the Republicans better go to the mattresses on this one. The only "outcries" will be the ones funded by George Soros.
