Quick thinking saves girl from Warwick pool

A local teenager has been hailed a hero after saving a little girl from a swimming pool.

Warwick Eagle Scout Austin Irons saved a little girl from drowning after a group of cub scouts and boy scouts finished swimming at McDermott Pool in Warwick.

Austin jumped in the water to save the girl who was lying face down and helped lifeguards resuscitate the girl.

"We heard shouting for lifeguards...I didn't even think. It was like, just do it," Austin recalled on the experience.

He was able to get the girl out of the pool with the help of the pool lifeguard, who administered rescue breathing. While he did so, Austin ran and grabbed the defibrillator as a precaution.

"After twelve rescue breaths she started coughing and her eyes opened and she started breathing on her own. Austin was there to help and he was very helpful in what he did and he should be proud of what he did," McDermott Pool Chief Lifeguard Bill Coyne told Eyewitness News.

Luckily, the girl was was fine, thanks in part to Austin's quick thinking.

Many called Austin a hero and praised him for his selfless actions.

"He definitely showed heroism and skill in exacting the rescue," said Scout Cub Master Scott Rice.

However, Austin wasn't calling himself a hero just yet, but rather said he did only what he was taught after over five years in the scouts.

"What I did exemplifies scout law and just doing what needs to be done for the good of the people," he said.

The scout leaders of his troop in Warwick, Troop One, have now nominated Austin for the Scout's third highest national award.

Boy scouts and Eagle scouts are such wonderful kids. I remember a few years back, we had a huge ice storm and the scout leader contacted all the boy scouts. They cleared trees, brush, helped anyone who needed it... so it really annoys me to have Liberals denounce them as racists/homophobes/sexists/whateverists... I bet the regular media doesn’t mention this one time. However, if some gay guy or tree hugger saved someone, they would be on the front of Time. IMHO

Meanwhile, across town, young liberal blogger Ezra Klein stood by while his compatriots filtered and manipulated information in the media resulting in Barack Hussein Obama becoming President. “Why yes! I guess I am a hero!” said Klein. /s

Orange County fire where, in what state? If the video doesn't contain locale information, at least Fox could put some textual context around the videos they post nationally.

OK, subsequent search indicates this is Orange County, Florida (Greater Orlando). Central Florida Council.

Yeah, for all the to-do about Boy Scouts being DADT, why don’t we see rescue and assistance stories like this from a hypothetical Gay Scout troop?

Boy Scouts are awesome! A couple of my former students were Eagle Scouts; they were really good guys. I stand in awe of those folks.

It does not take an Eagle scout to help out in a scoutlike manner there are plenty of tenderfoot’s and up with the requisite training to perform CPR and render other assistance in an emergency. A call to your local council may provide you with the opportunity of a lifetime to assist in the maturing of these young men. If you have boys from 1st grade up or girls from 14 up Boy scouting has an opportunity for them contact your local council for a pack, troop or crew near you

The picture says a lot. The ACLU considers the Boy Scouts to be a worthless, loathsome organization because of their stands on homosexuality. All of the good that comes out of scouting is devalued to zero by such liberals because of homosexuality.

I know that homosexuality and homosexuals have come out of closets and new laws regarding legal status and such have been passed in recent years. However, I do not understand why the liberals push to marginalize and destroy worthwhile organizations which do not toe to the liberal line all the way down the line.

Churches and religious organizations which do so much charitable work are attacked. Catholic hospitals are attacked over the abortion issue. Scouting is attacked over homosexuality. Why are worthwhile activities done by worthwhile organizations thought to be loathsome by liberals, liberals who do not do any charitable work of their own, or provide youth activities such as scouting? Why do they seek to destroy organizations which are delivering so much good, and delivering services which those same liberals will not deliver themselves??????

As an Eagle Scout, I would like to thank our MOTHERS AND FATHERS who bought us our uniforms and equipment, who took time to attend or run our meetings, who made SURE we had the opportunity and freedom to stick with CUB SCOUTS and BOY SCOUTS until we achieved our goals.

Thanks for posting the article. Good news is hard to find.

FROM ARTICLE:
“However, Austin wasn’t calling himself a hero just yet, but rather said he did only what he was taught after over five years in the scouts.”

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
