(CNSNews.com) - With 496 casualties, 2010 was by far the deadliest year for U.S. troops fighting a war in Afghanistan that has now entered its tenth year, according to casualty reports issued by the Department of Defense and tracked in a comprehensive database of war casualties maintained by CNSNews.com.
There were 303 U.S. casualties in the Afghanistan war in 2009, making 2009 the second deadliest year of the war.

Still safer there than in any major city in the US and you get to shoot back..
Don’t look for this on the evening news...
Its my understanding that they were “NATO” troops
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
On Thursdays, except during prayers, of if they're within 300 meters of any inhabited structure or a goat.
The media needs to receive an award for shameful bias due to the way it behaved during the Iraq war when Bush was President, compared to the way it is behaving now.
The article reports on the numbers of combat deaths in Afghanistan, but calls these figures “casualties”. The word “casualties” has a very specific meaning: the sum of Killed in Action, Died of Wounds, Wounded, and Missing in Action. So, a combat death is a casualty, but “casualties” refers to all of the categories.
When journalists file reports on the war and yet do not have the slightest understanding of the terms that they bandy about, they lose all credibility with me.
Must be the leadership at the top.
we pay for everything in A’stan.
the way to stop helping the Muslims
is to leave
We would have this pounded home to us everyday if the President was a republican.
By the way, didn’t the dems want to photograph the coffins when Bush was President? Now they have the chance but of course, they won’t do that now.
I get sick thinking about these poor troops with a wussy boy who wants us to lose as CIC.
I recommend watching the movie Restrepo for those that have Netflix online mode. It is a documentary of a 15 month deployment in Korengal Valley.
shhhh, goat granny says lets leave the goats out of this...how about within 300 meters of a camel...
That was insensitive of me.
I’m hopeful that Petraeus will be able to pull this thing together, but without Pakistan’s genuine cooperation it’s going to be a tough one.
Granny! You know my hatred of goats goes back to my childhood as an ‘Indentured Servant’ on my Aunt’s farm and having to milk those evil bustards every day, LOL!
However, I’ll take a goat over a camel ANY day of the week! :)
How can this be? ‘The One,’ Won!
Why, everything is Rainbows, Lollipops and Winged-Unicorns pooping skittles!
No one suffers! No one dies!
:O) Indentured Servant, another word for Wife.lol well, goats dont spit, thats one in their favor over camels..But Aunty scared the heck out of them there goats..but if they saw a muslim coming, they ran like hell..even the billy’s...
What freeper isn't....but lucky we have thick hides also
As with Gas Prices, Wikileaks, Unemployment, whatever, does anyone else notice the complete lack of outrage against the Bamster that would have been daily fodder in the Media if Bush was still the POTUS?
The manipulation of the ignorant masses is beyond my comprehension. The same energy used to vilify and promote outright hatred against Bush is now being focused on the fact that poor Obama still got his wonderful programs through despite the opposition of those mean Republicans.
I have a problem with this article, and all articles like it; it reports only our casualties, omitting those of our enemy.
Have you seen the new rules of engagement since the one took over? This has a lot to do with it.
