A female police officer has been shot dead and another wounded after a dramatic trailer park gun battle in Ohio.
Mother-of-two Suzanne Waughtel Hopper, 40, had driven to the trailer park after reports came in of shots being fired in the Enon Beach area late Saturday morning.
As she examined the area and took photos, the door of a nearby silver trailer opened and a man fired a single shot from a shotgun.
Deputy Hopper was killed instantly by the blast.
The officer who had accompanied there desperately tried to reach her body as a gun battle then ensued at the trailer park just southwest of Springfield and about 50 miles west of Columbus.
Sergeant Dustin White had been interviewing a family whose trailer had been shot at when he heard his partner scream.
Enon Beach resident Angelina Inman said: 'He was itching to get her. He kept radioing in, can he please get her, and he was told no because it wasn't secure. You could see him crying - he wanted to get her, he wanted to get her bad.'
The as-yet unidentified man fired again on police who responded to the 'officer down' call, sparking a furious gun battle as officers returned fire with handguns and automatic weapons.
It was during this firefight that Patrolman Jeremy Blum, 32, was also wounded...
...The shooter, who has not been named until relatives have been notified, was also killed in the gunfight as officers from several different agencies converged on the scene.

I am going to be called sexist but I think there are some professions women don’t belong in, especially young mothers. Now two young children will grow up motherless.
Would you feel better if she died in a car accident?
I guess it’s okay for children to grow up without fathers...
And yes, that was very sexist.
You got me thinking about it.
I feel bad for her family but I don’t believe women should be police officers, fire fighters, soldiers, jail workers, etc.
It’s too risky and they put their fellow male officers in danger. My hubby who is built like a pro wrestler could easily snap most of the puny male and female sheriffs nowadays in half.
I’ll don my flame suit now for being so “sexist.”
Tragic when an officer dies in the line of duty like this.
I wonder if this assassin had a record, or had ever been in the system before...
Definitely not ok to grow up with fathers; but then we have the family court system to faciliate THAT.
RIP to a brave officer killed in the line of duty.
She was shot in an ambush, never had a chance.
At least her killer was shot dead soon after,no long drawn out trail and endless appeal process for him.But her children have suffered an unimaginable loss.
that is “definitely not ok to grow up WITHOUT fathers”
Female cops shouldn't be allowed in the field. PERIOD!
My father died at 32,leaving 2 of us.
That certainly wasn’t easy.

Deputy Sheriff Suzanne Hopper was shot and killed after responding to a call of a window being shot out at a trailer park in Enon.

Additional deputies and officers from area police departments arrived at the scene and surrounded the trailer. A standoff ensued in which dozens of shots were fired between the suspect and officers. A police officer from the German Township Police Department was wounded and the suspect was ultimately killed during the shootout.

Agreed
There’s nothing sexist about it; I’m surprised that any PARENT is comfortable with this type of work. Here in NJ, more officers are killed in traffic accidents, but in a state this densely populated, with many drivers who a few months ago were riding animals somewhere else on the globe, it is a fact of life that our roads are dangerous.
It is time for law enforcement to get rid of campaign hats. She was evidently taking a picture of a footprint as the guy came out of his trailer and shot her at point blank range. When looking down those hats take away way took much peripheral vision.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C. includes more than 17,000 male officers killed in the line of duty and more than 200 female officers 1916 thru 2006. source:http://www.drbillywilbanks.com/trueheroines/addendum.html
Another officer was shot as well he is in the hospital a video is here

My heart and my prayers go out to their families.
The comments at the Mail criticize the police procedure.
Should she have been photographing evidence at a site where someone had fired shots a few minutes before, or should she and her partner have been ready and on the alert to encounter the gunman?
Being male doesn’t make one immune from a shotgun blast, just FYI.
Rest in peace, Deputy Hopper.
I have no problem with perps committing suicide-by-cop, but only the real cowards have the need to take a cop with them.
You are right. Even conservatives have bought into the feminist outrage at the very idea of there being any limits at all on a woman doing exactly what suits her fancy. PC has hit us all hard. - Women ARE built different than men, they don’t have the upper body strength to do certain jobs. A former military officer told me that he had women under his command and that when his company got the order to “bug out”, the women couldn’t do the heavy lifting to accomplish a bug out. They’d just ignore the order to do so, and call it done. In combat, sadly, calling it done isn’t getting it done. It’s foolish and costs lives.
Somewhere in the handbook it’s supposed to say “secure the scene” before beginning the investigation.
Tragedy for her family and her County.
That's probably an accurate description of how Congress will handle the spending/budget issues.
Sadly, I do not believe things will at all change until, there too, lives are lost.
A really nice person. Very tough for all who knew her.
Yes, my first thought as well.
Especially when responding to a "shots fired" call.
In any event, prayers for this young woman and her family. What a horrible tragedy.
The only good part is that the scumbag perp is dead forever.
Good point. Survival instincts come innately to the male. There's a reason men used to be hunters/ gatherers and women stayed in their caves nurturing the young. No amount of social engineering will change instincts. I am not saying women should only stay home and rear the young, but I think there are somethings in which women don't naturally belong, even if training helps to a degree.
Sad story, but I am going to have to call shenanigans on the "automatic weapons".
If fathers were around and DOING their jobs we wouldn’t have the Brittany Spear types and Lindsay Lohan types trapsing around in self destruction. Fathers are VERY important to their daughters and sons. You can NOT replace them with females.
I don’t know about the other one but Colonel Allen West is AWESOME. He’s got his act together. It’s NOT about his color for me. He has substance and principles I agree with.
Wow. She looks just like FBI Agent Renee Walker from ‘24’.
“No! You’re not sexist, just spot on.
Female cops shouldn’t be allowed in the field. PERIOD!”
Indeed!
Standards are LOWERED because females LACK the upper body strength. They are more emotionally wired. Every now and then you see it on one of these cop shows were the women are tossed around like rag dolls. Naturally the left is bombing us with female cop shows. It’s ridiculous.
Women have more to offer than trying to pretend they are males. Why don’t they see that? Take Condi Rice. A SHARP woman. She’s smarter than Graham and others. It’s too bad she doesn’t want a political life anymore.
btt
Uncalled for on this thread. Big time. Save it for your PDS garbage threads.
I am old school to and do not “like” it either yet I have seen women that are better at police work and military than some men. No I do not like seeing women put in harms way. But it’s their choice.
BTW ...thanks for thinking out loud .....:o)
Stay safe !
She is attractive.
BTW, is their a DAD in the picture?
Or is she another “single mom” trying to do a man’s job?
Dont tell that to the Sarah Palin cult that religously watches her Alaska show. Shes another obsessive Title IX girl. Poor Todd acts like a girly man so she can wear the pants. As for being wired differently, has Palin ever resisted a dumb comeback? No. Even Levi, her daughters shack up buddy gets her attention. Maybe some day Palin will get the sex change she is craving.
“Uncalled for on this thread. Big time. Save it for your PDS garbage threads.”
It’s perfectly appropriate. You just don’t want to see it.
Then again, I’m a conservative and not a progressive Populist as Sarah Palin is.
Neither did the mods.
I don’t know if she’s married, divorced or single. There’s no mention in the story.
She was married six months ago.
Ever notice how many overweight, out of shape deputies (of both sexes( there are?
It’s not my fault they can’t deal with the truth.
I’ll keep saying it.
These “mods” don’t silence me.
FR is beocming more and more like DU with SPEECH CENSORSHIP.
