Judge Who Ordered Euthanasia of Terri Schiavo Retires
St. Petersburg, FL -- The Florida state judge who allowed the former husband of disabled patient Terri Schiavo to take her life by depriving her of food and water, has retired from the bench.

This will help move him to the front of the line for the Death Panel.
The first sentence belies the headline. The judge ordered that the husband be allowed to decide. If he’d decided to keep her on life support she would have been kept on life support.
Um, last time I checked, food & water are not LIFE SUPPORT!!!
This case was beyond ridiculous & anyone who couldn’t see an agenda here was either stupid & willfully ignorant. This judge even denied her ice chips & mouth swabs. Inhumane would be putting it gently.
Will he be denied food and water?
Why not euthanize him?
Actually, the court took control and took it out of the hands of the “husband in name only,” ordering her not to be hydrated — a death sentence.
What was her crime?
The parents pleaded with the husband to let them take custody of her. He refused and opted for her death anyway. When he leaves this world, he will have some serious 'splain' to do... as will that judge.
‘splain’ = ‘splainin’
Dunno, but he will not be denied Hell
One of the brothers Bush’s biggest failures. That case empowered ABCCBSCNNNBC/AP and they haven’t let up on America since. Greer is the worst political whore, took campaign $$ from Mr. Schiavo.
You’re absolutely right. This guy was bought & paid for. Too bad for him he sold himself to the Devil.
Isn’t this “judge” legally blind? If there is any justice in this world, he will spend his last days in a Sun Coast “hospice” where his next of kin will decide he wouldn’t want to live that way.
Retirement isn’t good enough. He, the lawyer and the husband are all murderers. Ol’ Sparky would be just about right.
“Schiavos case became and international debate over the treatment of people who are medically incapacitated and it say Circuit Court Judge Greer
Greer said in an interview with the St. Petersburg Times that he feared for his life because of the outpouring of opposition to his decision allowing Michael Schiavo to take Terris life.
I wore a bulletproof vest for months, Greer said. About defending himself in public, he said, I knew I couldnt. Was it hard? Yeah, it was hard, but I knew I couldnt.
Judges are not supposed to get down in the pits and duke it out, Greer added in the newspaper interview. Were not only supposed to be impartial, were supposed to give the appearance of impartiality.
It was absolute hell, it truly was we were captive in our own home, his wife Patricia added, saying the couple once received a delivery of dead flowers. I opened the card and it said: no food, no water.
On four occasions Greer refused to take himself off the case despite links to attorneys for Michael Schiavo. He faced a Congress, state legislature, and president in George W. Bush who did everything in their power to assist Terris family in their bid to provide her with appropriate medical treatment, rehabilitative care and to prevent what ultimately became a 13-day starvation and dehydration death.
Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavos brother, released a statement about Greers retirement.
There are many in the legal community that will be honoring Judge Greer for his many years of judicial service, he said.
* Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network
However, for our family, and the millions of people that supported Terri worldwide, Judge Greers decision to deliberately starve and dehydrate her to death based largely on hearsay testimony is anything but honorable. Terri was denied the most basic of rights right that our laws are intended to protect: life and liberty, he said.
Indeed, it is because of Judge Greer that our family formed the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, an organization that now fights for those brain-injured persons like Terri, so their individual rights can be protected from similar judges, who see no value in the lives of those who need only our love and compassion, he added.
After the decision, Greer traveled the lecture circuit, which upset Terris family further. He spoke at a national summit concerning jury trials, even though he unilaterally allowed the taking of Terris life without a jury deliberation.
Greer was also a featured speaker at Loyola Law School Los Angeles, where he instructed members of the mainstream media in how to report on significant legal stories like the battle over Terris life. Greer also previously came under fire for speaking engagements at a bioethics forum at the University of Pennsylvania and a local Bar Association event in Florida.
Terri reportedly said before she died that she wanted to live.”
Considering he had 4 opportunities to remove himself from the case which makes the case that he actually WANTED to do it - innotsodoing he made himself the victim. He probably got millions on the speech circuit.
This man makes me sick to my stomach.
What, then, gave the orders to the medical staff to kill Terri by starvation and thirst, the force of law?
He’s a murderer, same as Manson.
