This is getting weird.
Four days after an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 red-winged blackbirds fell from the sky in Beebe, Ark., about 500 more dead birds were found lying lifeless on a quarter-mile-long stretch of highway in Pointe Coupee Parish in Louisiana.
The birds, red-winged blackbirds and starlings, were discovered on Monday, Baton Rouge's The Advocate reported. Biologists will send some of the birds to labs in Georgia and Wisconsin to conduct necropsies and tests to determine the cause of death.
After examining the birds found in Arkansas, state officials concluded that they had died as a result of blunt trauma, possibly caused by flying into buildings after being startled by New Year's fireworks.
A day before the Arkansas bird deaths were reported, 100,000 drum fish were found dead in a massive fishkill in the Arkansas River. That die-off is still being investigated but was likely caused by a combination of factors including a population boom over the summer, a deadly pathogen and a harsh winter cold snap.

So, to clarify, we have:
First Birds Fall, Now 100,000 Fish Dead in Arkansas
Woman reports dozens of dead birds in her yard (Kentucky)
Tons Of Dead Fish Wash Ashore In Brazil
Someone said that the Fireworks might have done it.
Ummmm, unless I’m sadly mistaken - Blackbirds do not fly at night. They like to see where they are flying. We don’t launch a whole lot of Fireworks until night falls and it is pretty dark out there.
In other News: McDonald’s is running a special on the McFish and the Chicken McNuggets. lol
*a harsh winter cold snap*
Time for the AGW droolers to blame this on man-made global warming.
Just imagine, FRiends. These are the same people you and I depend on in times of emergencies, disasters, terrorist actions to protect us and our loved ones.
So why doesn't this happen every New Year.
Apparently they all flew into buildings in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisiana. Coincidence I guess?
Mustabeen the windex.
Obviously, all of it is Bush’s Fault
Maybe a newly discovered species of “Dorkbird”
What if they’re migrating? Up here in the mitten, some of our best chances at seeing migrating birds (both coming and going) are early evening, as they set out, and mid-morning, as they’re looking for a place to roost for the day. I know Red-wing Blackbirds are migratory—I sure do miss them this time of year.
I’m still waiting on the truth about the missile fired off the coast of california. Still waiting,,,,,,,,
I did not know that the little town in Arkansas was nothing but wall-to-wall skycrapers.
Actually the “trauma” was caused by a delayed reaction to the airplane that took off from the Pacific Ocean a couple months back.
We know, for certain that it is NOT the fireworks. . .
Then, why do the reports indiacte they were found in open spaces? Shouldn't they all be piled up at the foundation of several buildings?
Another chaos theory nut I guess. :-)
One of the happy things about moving to S. FL was all the redwing blackbirds. I love them, they are everywhere and they are not only beautiful, I love to hear them sing in the spring. We had them in TX but not many and they mostly hung with those bad boy starling and cowbirds.
Dead blackbirds? I call hate crime.
All I want to know is:
1. Why is this man’s (predominantly middle age white man’s) fault?
2. Why should I feel guilty about it?
3. How much, and where do I send the check?
We can't expect State Officials [or Federal, for that matter] to do that!
These buttwipes are there to respond to MEDIA and no one else!
It does not matter what they say; it only matters that the media prints it. They can then return to their superfluous, meaningless jobs that tax our own treasure, force us to work even harder to make ends meet, and to enslave us.
Doesn't even needs the sarc!
Those mercury bulbs are going to ruin the environment way faster than CO2 will in several million years!
This is almost the stoopidist thing I've ever read.
I was thinking something similar. Or maybe we’re the dorks if we’re going to settle for these ridiculous “explanations.”
Good grief. When’s the last time you’ve heard or seen flocks of birds flying at midnight? And just where are all these super tall buildings that impeded the flight of these birds?
Did the fishies swim into tall buildings, too?
Some wildlife is funny like that.
interesting read here on this
These stories are very odd.
I read that report as well. It’s more plausible than the tripe which is being thrown around by the MSM at present... Thanks for posting it.
(There is, of course, a third possibility that underscores my observation; but no need to go 'there'.)
OK; one more 'careful' look/lol.
birds mistaken fetilizer in newly planted fields for seed? who knows
My fortuneteller told me that the reason all the birds (AR & LA) and the dead fish is related to the coming earthquake at the New Madrid fault.
The LSM is polishing their stories so that they can claim that since Rush is from that area, it is his and all the Tea Party, Conservatives and evil middle aged white men’ s fault.
Obama is so wish that he is not wasting resources on an area that will soon be gone and in two years he will hailed (sic) as a hero to all Americans and Future voters (illegal aliens)
By the way, I am going to win the $330 million lottery tonight.
Got to go and put my tin foil hat on. News time and time for my daily indoctrination.
That was an interesting read. You ought to post that as its own article.
Last time there was a major birdkill down here, it was hail. Grackles literally covered the ground at a school. Then 2-3 days later, it happened again. All those that were injured and not killed outright the first day.
I recall one time a simular event occured, they said high winds or tornados had forced them up very high and the air temp drops 3 degrees per thousand foot so they froze and dropped to the ground plus the air was so thin at high levals they suffacated.
Interesting- seems possible with the recent tornadoes that hit the area.
Those, my friend, are dorkfish! They were looking for corndogs...
Were they mostly found at the base of said tall buildings?
Probably saying ouch in Red wing blackbird language..
