Apple now calls Christian belief "objectionable and potentially harmful"
The Manhattan Project ^ | 12/23/2010 | no byline

Posted on 01/06/2011 12:41:45 PM PST by Springfield Reformer

Apple is telling us that the apps' content is considered "likely to expose a group to harm" and "to be objectionable and potentially harmful to others." Inasmuch as the Manhattan Declaration simply reaffirms the moral teachings of our Christian faith on the sanctity of human life, marriage and sexual morality, and religious freedom and the rights of conscience, Apple's statement amounts to the charge that our faith is "potentially harmful to others."

So does this make me an "Anti-Apple Troll?" Or am I still allowed to object to Apple's newfound moral incoherency without falling into “applostacy?” And what of boycotts? Are they effective? Or are there other, better strategies for a situation like this?

This from the people who stole the trademark from the Beatles.

So, Christianity is objectionable and potentially harmful but stealing trademarks and who knows what else is ok?

Ironic considering that when APPLE COMPUTER first started, I read that the logo was based on the ‘fruit of knowledge’ that Eve ate, in the Bible Story.

If that was actually true, then it would mean APPLE based their logo on a concept from a Bible story.

This situation was posted on FR in the past few weeks (Can’t remember exactly when). I still cannot totally believe there isn’t another side to this issue considering the enormous amount of Christian apps I have found in the App Store. And, Apple has also refused to sell pornographic apps.

Would Chrisitans gain acceptance by the left if they sawed some innocent peoples’ heads off and bombed some office buildings? That seems to be the only conduct they approve of.

You’re looking at it from the wrong direction there.
The left doesn’t oppose religion, they oppose Christianity.

So it’s perfectly logical for them to be OK with Muslims.

Must disagree with you about “incoherency”. Apple has ALWAYS been “of the left”. Just like all leftist organizations, they pissed and moaned about “capitalism”, while pushing monopolist policies as far as they could get away with.

Still, ya got to remember that the appl that Eve bit (if it was an apple) was the fruit of the tree of “knowledge of good and evil”, not just general knowledge (see Genesis 2:8).

Obviously, Apple has no knowledge of the evil that they do.

I've posted before on FR with criticisms of Apple's walled garden approach to what applications consumers can run on Apple-made iPhone and iPad devices which they've purchased and which do not belong to Apple. Some folks on FR applauded Apple's insistence on banning apps they deemed too adult or too politically controversial. But there is value in the concept of private ownership and being able to do what you want with your own property.

Fortunately, in this case there are alternatives. Android, for one.

I appreciate your insight but I stand by my choice of words. A moral system is incoherent if it is logically unsustainable. If the first premise of morals is “do no harm,” and a proposed moral system merely trades one set of harms for another, or has internal inconsistencies predicting its own demise and the flourishing of greater harms than it sought to prevent, then it is incoherent. The morality of the left is guilty on both counts, grounded as it is on the shifting sands of relativism, adrift on the sea of postmodern deconstructionism, the only possible child of the Nietzschean monstrosity unleashed by the abandonment of God as the ground of morality. It will die of its own burden. It is quite incoherent.

I suspected as much.

But then the Christians are the oppressive majority and associated with right wing Republicans and the Manhattan Declaration would be considered an instrument of the Christian Right.

What always surprises me however is that Muslims are much more intolerant about homosexuality, women’s rights, gay marriage or any number of Left wing hot button issues.

Yes, there are better strategies. I just did a search in the Apple App Store on the word "Bible". Scores of apps popped up. I stopped counting at 90 and there were lots more listed.

I also did a search on the word "Christian". Again lots of apps popped up, including:
The Christian Broadcasting Network, Radio & TV
Christian Creeds
Christian Classics Ethereal Library (lots of apps for this one)
C.S. Lewis quotes and many of his other books
Christian eCards - lots of these
LifeWay Christian Resources
Christian Prayer Journal

There are lots of apps for Christians in the Apple App Store.

One rejected app does not negate a good policy of vetting apps before allowing them in the store. It is unreasonable to become indignant over the rejection of one app when so many Christian resources are available in the App Store.

Apple also rejects pornography apps.

You have to remember, lies are the left's native language. They inherited this tendency from their ideological father mentioned in John 8:44.

It's not that they oppose religion, they oppose Christianity.
All those other subjects are just their "cover" issues for opposing Christian beliefs.

Strange. I have a free Holy Bible from the app store. And there’s several Holy Bible’s versions available in the iBookstore.

Without knowing the full extent of the app is question, I can’t comment on that specific app, but to say Apple doesn’t allow Christian themed apps or books is not true.
