Thank God These People Are on the Other Side of the World (But they're here!)

Just curious, but is anybody paying attention to what just happened in Pakistan? It's dribbled out in bits and pieces, but I don't recall anyone putting the whole picture in perspective.

Here's what's happened. More than a year ago, Asia Bibi, a 45-year-old mother of five, was working in the fields in the Punjab province when some of the Muslim women working alongside her asked her to fetch water. When she returned, several women said they would not accept it because she was a Christian and therefore "unclean." Insults were exchanged and in the process Bibi made some insulting remarks about the Koran and Islam.

The incident blew over at first, but word spread through the town and a few days later Bibi was being pursued by a Muslim mob. The police intervened and rescued her but felt obliged to satisfy the mob's bloodlust so they charged Bibi with blasphemy. This is a capital offense under a law dating back to British colonialism. Bibi was held in solitary confinement for more a year until she was finally put on trial in October. She was convicted in the provincial court and sentenced to die on November 9.

By now the case was drawing international attention. Christian groups began to protest and Pope Benedict XVI appealed for clemency, complaining that Christians in Pakistan are "often victims of violence and discrimination." Other minority groups in Pakistan began calling for the repeal of the blasphemy law, saying it was used to persecute all minorities. The execution was postponed. Then in mid-November, Salman Taseer, the governor of Punjab and apparently a decent man, called for issuing a pardon and said that blasphemy should not be punishable by death.

Forget about this "nation-building." These people are incapable of holding a wedding or a funeral without somebody blowing himself up and taking half the crowd with him.

The religion of death and insanity. Jone's Kool-Aid religion made as much sense. Perhaps more because the only people they killed besides themselves was a Democrat congressman.

Islam is a vile, barbaric, gutter ‘religion’ for a vile, barbaric, gutter people. Both should be wiped off the face of the earth and will be on the great day of Christ’s return.

Islam has been holding over 1 billion people from progress and modernity since the religion was forced on people at the point of a sword. There is no hope for reform of Islam; it is stuck in the 8th century or earlier and hasn’t progressed much. Everytime I see a news story from Pakistan it reminds me of a biblical movie.

I contend anybody who believes in capital punishment for “blasphemy” qualifies as a “religious fanatic.”

For a great many people, however, a “religious fanatic” is anyone who takes their religion more seriously than they do.

I just wonder how seriously Joe Boucher takes his religion. He seems to think that ALL religious fanatics, regardless of their religious beliefs, are nuts.

Most religious hospitals were founded by religious fanatics. Most street missions are run by religious fanatics. Most of the world wide charities are run and funded by religious fanatics.

You have to be somewhat of a fanatic to give up your own time and money and often your own life and devote it to the service of other people in the name of God.

Maybe Mr. Boucher can define for us what he means by "religious fanatic". If it is simply someone who takes their religion seriously, then I would hate to live in a world where nobody was a religious fanatic.

Mr. Boucher, if you were walking in a really bad neighborhood and you saw a group of 20 something men standing on the corner in front of you, would you feel better knowing that these guys were not religious at all or would you feel better knowing that they had all just come out of a Church service?

That is a pretty narrow definition of religious fanatic. That would include about 1/10000000 of the population of the country. Hardly worth a post on Free Republic, wouldn't you say?

I notice on your forum page that you think Abortion is Murder. To the MSM that would mean that you would be numbered among the "religious fanatics" whether you believe in God or not.

I'm sure they think you are a B Nut.

So who would you prefer to be numbered with? The "religious fanatics", or the godless left wing media types?

One fairly good definition of a religious fanatic is someone who feels compelled to do what God would do if He knew all the facts. :)

I personally believe someone can build their life around their religion and not be a fanatic. I define the fanatic as someone who feels they must try to impose their religious opinions on others.

Well then if you are critical of Islam, then you must be a fanatic!

That sounds pretty good. I’d go with anyone who believes the initiation of force is an acceptable means of religious discourse.

So on last Tuesday, Governor Taseer, the man who had spoken up for softening the law, was assassinated by one of his own guards. The killer, one Malik Mumtaz Hussain Qadri, said that Taseer had committed blasphemy by siding with Bibi. Qadri was known for his extreme views and acted alone, but none of the governor's other guards seemed to make any attempt to stop him. Yesterday when Qadri appeared in court, he was mobbed by a throng of admirers who garlanded him with flowers. Meanwhile, Taseer's family couldn't find a Muslim cleric to preside over his funeral.

Were I to imagine the message Satan would want to communicate to mankind, it would read just like the Koran: good works save you, anyone who doesn't believe like you is scum and should be killed, the ends justifies the means, etc.

I continue to assert that islam was directly inspired by the devil himself.

Think about it - if you were satan and looking for the perfect way to deceive God’s people, islam would be the answer. Give ungodlike thoughts and acts a veneer of religion, put them in a book and you’ve got a very efficient vehicle for enslaving billions of people and keeping them away from the one true God.

Too many people seem to forget just how intelligent and clever the devil really is. He is a master deceiver.

Yep.

Here's a hint:

REAL prophets climb mountains to be closer to God.

They don't crawl into a hole to listen to the hissings of The Serpent.
