Witnesses in Italy said thousands of turtle doves fell from the sky, Wednesday, Jan. 5, following a series of incidents in the United States and Sweden.
According to residents in the town of Faenza, birds were falling from the sky like little Christmas balls." The reports are similar to witness accounts from New Years Eve when Arkansas partygoers took cover as 4,000 red-winged blackbirds and starlings pinged cars, rooftops and roadways.
Unlike birds that died in other areas of the world, the turtle doves were found with a strange blue stain on their beaks.
We have no idea, a witness said via e-mail, why this happened all of the sudden. The doves just started falling one-by-one then in groups of 10s and 20s.
Initial tests of the doves indicated that the blue stains on the beaks could have been caused by poisoning or hypoxia.
Hypoxia, a lack of oxygen, is known to cause confusion and illness in animals. It is also a common precursor to altitude sickness.
Scientists in Italy said official test results done on many of the dead turtle doves will not be available for at least a week.
Unlike incidents in Sweden and the U.S., the kill in Italy marks the first in which poisoning or sickness is suspected.
Birds in Arkansas, Louisiana and Kentucky showed signs of blunt trauma. Many birds were found with broken wings, necks, beaks and legs, suggesting they became confused and flew into solid structures.
Italian officials also said cold weather could be a factor in the kill. The flock could have been swept into a high-altitude wind storm before dropping to the earth.
As of press time, the number of dead turtle doves near Faenza was expected to reach 8,000 or more.

Lead astray by the four calling birds and three French hens ... no doubt to get their gold rings.
Of course that’s the logical explanation for the injuries. But that’s not convoluted or complicated enough to be classified as “scientific.” :)
One more to add to your depressing list.
The Earths magnetic field is preparing to flip. During this phase the magnetic lines are all screwed up, causing confusion in animlas which use the magnetic data. Exhaustion may be the major cause of these bird falls and possibly even fish die-offs.
And following the magnetic lines theory, we should see aberrations in geese migration, too.
Where and when did you see 5,000 dead turtle doves fall from the sky?
Where and when have you seen thousands of dead blackbirds?
Where and when have you seen tens of thousands of dead Red Snappers wash up on the beach?
So which was it? A flock of turtles, or a flock of doves?
Unidentified Flogging Objects (UFOs).
I'm thinking it's probably because they were dead. :D

Since those toilet tanks contain chemicals to kill their bacteria, it may be possible that the flock of birds simply happened to fly through some waste water being dumped by an airplane and the chemicals did them in.
that or they got in a brawl with the Tidy Bowl man.
A google mapping does show Atlanta as the ‘hub’.
Maybe the airlines are using new non-freezing material in the onboard johns. This would explain it.
Yep....:)
I can also blame Ingmar Bergman because his films usually had annoyingly random dead birds symbolically falling from the sky....but that would be even more enigmatic....LOL
