Nice shaker. Looking for seismograph reports now.
Caused by globull warming, no doubt.
I blame the Koch brothers.
I love how you are all cavalier about it.
I experienced a couple here in the midwest and they FREAK me out.
And my pet!
I walked in to my house and closed my door just when it hit. At first, I was thinking I had really slammed my door hard.
Didn’t feel it here, but this page is showing a 4.4 event at 4:10 with an epicenter south of Mt. Hamilton:
4.4 is a little quake. Nothing to worry about.
A 4.4 quake to folks on the west coast is like a severe thunderstorm to us in the midwest...it gets your attention for a while, causes relatively little damage and then people go about their business.
This one was kinda fun but we get em all the time.
I am taking care of a friend who is 100 and we both broke out laughing afterward because of the way it started and just kinda rolled like it was thinking about getting to work and then it just gave up.
The house we are in survived 1906 and 1989. We just don’t sweat them out here.
It just this one was funny.
Now that’s funny. LOL
Are you here in the Bay Area? Didn’t know that if you are.
By the time you figure out what’s going on, it is pretty much done, unless you are right there.
Now my brother in Florida watching hurricanes coming at you for days on end, that is torture.
Nice little shaker - though there is a chance of minor damage in the immediate vicinity.
No, I’m inland. It would take a major quake in that area for me to feel it.
Just wondering. hennie pennie had pinged you so I thought you might be here but .... Nohhh.... you’re there. LOL
It’s still the oddest feeling though.
Especially if you are on the second floor of a place sitting in an armchair at 1am.
I don’t think our midwest buildings are built for em.
One could expect an earthquake or two.
Sounds like no injuries - that's good.
>>>>I dont think our midwest buildings are built for em.
Not only that, the structure of the earth’s crust is different in the Midwest, and a quake will be felt over a much larger area and do much, much more damage.
No your buildings are not built for them. Don’t know where you are but I lived in Oklahoma for 10 years and had people tell me all time about how they wouldn’t want to be in California during a quake.
I always laughed and said it’s better than sitting around praying for God’s mercy from a Tornado watch, flood, freezing, fires and all the other things, like June bugs, that happen in the Greenbelt.
Plus there is a fault called the New Madras Fault that is expected to go off anytime and it will affect a huge swath of the Midwest.
My Mom and Sister still live in OK.
Guess they didn’t get the memo:
Oklahoma sucks so Texas won’t fall into the Gulf of Mexico.
God’s warning to Silicon Valley.
calaveras fault [parallel to hayward fault]
Emergency services are training for the big midwestern one.
It’s a SCARY prospect. A LOT of people could die.
I look forward to moving into a one-story house.
>>>>Emergency services are training for the big midwestern one.
Indeed. The CERT team I volunteer with is likely to be called up to assist when/if the New Madrid lets go.
We don’t hear a lot about the training...but I have family in EMS and Fire.
Some of the things they are telling me about training/potential damage ... well, I guess it’s better NOT to know.
If it happens...EVERYONE will be CERT.
You will be digging your neighbors out and providing aid to the best of your ability.
Thnx. Of course I have USGS Nor-Cal bookmarked after that 5 something from about five years ago.
I have friends in Gilroy basically saying I’m telling a fairytale about feeling it.
Whatever. Told em to go lok at my vanit and the 3 which preceded mine by mere seconds.
The biggest I’ve had the pleasure of was the upper 4 Morgan Hill quake in the mid ‘80. Had the cars bouncing all over the parking lot at Ft. Ord LOL
