U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, an eyewitness reported Saturday.

Giffords, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting her first "Congress on Your Corner event at the Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting. At least five other people, including members of her staff, were hurt, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known.

Giffords is known as a strong proponent of solar energy as well as for her work to secure the border with Mexico.

Thoughts and prayers for Rep. Giffords and her staff. Unfortunately, the MSM and lefty pols will use this as a call to re-examine the less than restrictive gun laws in AZ. It would be an added bonus to the left if the shooter were somehow linked to the tea party. If the shooter ends up being a left wing nutjob, the story will be buried.

Gunman’s name will not be released if they are “undocumented” or one of those criminals, I mean terrorists. If gunman’s a typical American, the name will be released asap. If it was a hit, we may never know the i.d. and gunman will end up in witness protection program. Seriesly. Giffords is married to an ASTRONAUT. This is really bad.
