Report: U.S. House of Representatives Postpones All Legislative Business Next Week
Saturday, January 8, 2011 | Kristinn

Nothing online yet. Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, just before the news conference started, read a statement from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that the House of Representatives was postponing all legislative business next week.

A new schedule will be announced on Sunday. Presumably, the vote to repeal Obamacare will be put off from the planned January 12 date.

From Reuters:

"All legislation currently scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives next week is being postponed so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy," Cantor said in a prepared statement.

The postponement of House business is out of respect for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her family.

Conservatives are decent people. What happened today knows no party affiliation or political boundaries. But I don’t expect the Left to be civilized for once.

This is for the country, not for the Democratic Party. Its not for them.

Isn’t that a bit unusual?

This delay is both unnecessary and melodramatic.

You don’t play decent with communists engaged in a psychological war against the Republican party and the capitalist system.

Now the marxists can lie all week without even having to take time out to vote.

Wonder what “steps” Cantor is talking about, creating a new federal protective service to taser any constituent who looks cross eyed at one of their betters in Congress?

Censure any politician who refuses to retract their statements that the Tea Party or talk radio caused this is the ONLY appropriate action. This is a left wing kook problem and needs to be presented as so.

I don’t understand how postponing the work of the House of Representatives for a week is the proper show of respect to a wounded member.

IMO, extend condolences, don’t let last week’s momentum slip away, continue working to undo rat damage to our country.

I don’t know of human being you are but someone is between life and death and all you can think about is politics.

I’m just disgusted. If it happened to you and your family worried about you making it, I think you would want the respect of your colleagues and friends.

Not everything in life is about politics. There is plenty of time for that later.

I totally agree! Everyone ought to get busy and create screenshots of all this whacko’s rantings. Before a day has passed, they will all be gone from the internet and he will be branded a “rabid element of the Teaparty” which he clearly is not. What he clearly IS, is a Leftist Loon who hates America, its government and its flag.

I immediatley heard calls for “a change in the tone of Washington. Does this mean we should just give up and become Socialists and Communists to keep the peace? The business of the country must go on! They won’t let terrorists killing hundreds of us or trying to blow all of us up stop Congress, but the actions of one nut job can?

I would remind the news media that other people were killed and injured who weren’t promininent figures in politics or government. Let’s have enough respect for them and their families not to act as if the death or injury of a politician is more worthy of grief and sense of loss than an ordinary citizen.

Well, we did just watch the local police chief stand in the blood and with his own rhetoric blame talk radio for the murders, offsetting the perp’s record of dead threats and dealings with police.

Next week we’ll have an inquisition of talk radio.

I agree. I feel sorry about what happened, but we have to strke while the iron is still hot. This is like the opposing team calling a time out, just as the kicker is ready to kick a field goal

can the FRs develop something for the 9 year old girl’s family whom was shot down by the bastard in Tuscon, AZ. a memorial fund, a scholarship fundin her honor. The family must be suffering enough and in their grief they have to bury their child and be able to go on in life.

I am unable to do anything because I have to travel Sunday, 10 hours stay overnight in Detroit Metro Area undergo cervical vertebrae surgery on Monday AM. i will be unable to be on FR for a time but will check periodically if at all possible if someone has done anything to help the family whom lost their child.

“Wounded?” Someone gets shot point blank in the head and you dismiss it casually like she had a knee rash. Rep. Giffords could very easily die.

I know enough about agonizing over the well-being of a family member to identify with Giffords - and what her family must be going through. Her children could lose their mother. She is in critical condition. You don’t seem to show much respect for the state she is in.

The affairs of this world can wait a week.

I agree and would add weak and self-important.

The best rebuke to anarchy and savagery is calm resolve.

You are deluded if you think there wont be any "politics" going on next week.

There will be plenty, and most of it will be a full frontal psyop by the marxist members of the "Progressive Congressional Caucus" against the GOP to portray them and their constituency as homicidal maniacs.

No reason to let them operate unfettered and giving them a week off to concentrate exclusively on this operation.
