Report: U.S. House of Representatives Postpones All Legislative Business Next Week
Saturday, January 8, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 01/08/2011 5:17:23 PM PST by kristinn

Nothing online yet. Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, just before the news conference started, read a statement from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that the House of Representatives was postponing all legislative business next week.

A new schedule will be announced on Sunday. Presumably, the vote to repeal Obamacare will be put off from the planned January 12 date.

We are about to get a big, big, big dose of republican knee jerk, wonder what this is going to cost. Look republicans, it is the peoples house and if you cannot live with the fact that there are nut out there get a different job.

But I'd bet the Bank on the fact that this dirt bag kid was turned down by the army because he had been on crazy kid drugs half of his life. That is spelled prozak!

Absolutely stupid on the part of the House leadership. The shooting today by some radical drugged up Leftist insane punk should have no bearing on what has to get done in the House this week. We have a country in one Hell of a mess that needs the full attention, and the full action of the representatives of the people.

Drop the melodrama. Don’t think of this as an excuse to NOT do the will of the people. Cut the crap, and get on with the job at hand.

The affairs of this world can wait a week.

It is the height of hubris and arrogance to presume that the "affairs of this world" can be delayed for even an instant by any man or collection of men.

This is beyond ridiculous. They can take a day to show their respect, it’s called attending the funeral, or give a moment of silence but get back to work. They aren’t related to her!

Every day in this country someone is killed by an illegal alien and nobody shuts down to honor them. The Congress just thinks they are elite. They are not so special and today’s shooting just proved that to them so they are scared!

I saw the LE chief say that people who talk over the airways for a living might have free speech, but there are consequences from what they do.

My jaw dropped.

He volunteered this...nobody had asked about that, at least not in the part I saw. He was going to leave the mic and then stopped to make this unbelievable statement.

Does FR have a thread on this, or can I find comments on another thread, do you know?

He should be sued for his remarks and brought to public account for his stupid, reprehensible behavior.

This delay is both unnecessary and melodramatic.

“I agree and would add weak and self-important.

The best rebuke to anarchy and savagery is calm resolve.”

The two of you said it best. This is like when John McCain suspended his campaign to go back to DC and deal with the financial crisis. He dropped into a distant second and never regained the lead.

"All legislation currently scheduled to be considered by the House of Representatives next week is being postponed so that we can take whatever actions may be necessary in light of today's tragedy," Cantor said in a prepared statement.

I don't like the sound of that.

All of this—no business next week, what the talking heads are saying about what’s said “on the air,” a comment by an official about “bigotry”, the chief’s statement about people who talk over the airways for a living—it’s a set-up to try to censor the free speech of conservatives. Now they have an “excuse” of why it has to be done, and the time next week to jam thru new legislation doing just that.

Funny I dont remember the military memebers getting a week off from their duties, after the muslim killed the military members in Fort Hood Texas, Obama could not even comment on it right away, as he was busy giving a speech at an Indian event giving” shout outs” to some chief, and telling ever one not to jump to conclusions...

I do hope Gabrielle recovers, and pray for the families of the deceased...

Agree. We’ve got a 1.4 trillion dollar deficit and these dumb bunnies should spend their time finding budget cuts, voting on them and sending them to the Senate.

What is wrong with these people?

“The affairs of this world can wait a week.”

NO they cannot. I’ve been reading your posts for years now, and I know you are allowing your emotions to cloud your usual sense of righteousness.

Snap out of it, and realize we have to keep up the momentum that was started last week, or cede ground to the Leftist enemy.

My heart breaks for everyone affected by this senseless act but, Congress should not shut down for a week because of this.

The People’s House is stronger than the actions of a lunatic, be it a homegrown nut or islamic terrorists flying planes into buildings. WE are stronger than the actions of a lunatic, be it a homegrown nut or islamic terrorists flying planes into buildings

, Yetthe wording is somewhat cryptic, leaving the reader open to speculation.

I think it looks political to close congress for a week.

I don’t know of a major business that would close it doors for a week because one of it’s employees got shot.

Even “The Exorcist,” “A Time to Kill” and “The Craigslist Killer” are all on TV at the same time tonight.

Bill Clinton -> OKC -> Reno shuts the investigation down -> TalkRadio is at fault and there is no John Doe #2...

I was wondering earlier what will happen with Gifford’s seat. Perhaps they are giving the situation a little time to see if or how quickly she might (or might not) be able to resume.

What will be done if she can’t resume her duties? Gubernatorial appointment?

All that said, I’m a little concerned about a whole week wait. Hope it’s not just because the republicans are being ultra cautious of the media.....who is getting ready to have a field day interviewing democrats, I’m sure.

Agree, If these dweebs cannot walk and chew gum at the same time how would they handle a real crisis? This is not a good sign.

Prayers for the congress woman and her family.
