The Seattle Seahawks will become the first team in NFL history with a losing record (7-9) to host a playoff game when the defending-champ Saints visit Saturday afternoon.
But Seattle’s losing record is not the only scandal rocking the football world today. Nope. There’s something much more sinister brewing in the Emerald City: the team’s home stadium, Qwest Field, has reportedly short-changed fans who order a large beer!
The beer vendors this season charged $8.50 for a 20-ounce beer and $7.25 for a 16-ounce beer. But it turns out both cups hold the same amount of beer, even though one is taller than the other.
Those b*stards. And some argue Seattle is a great beer city, too.

The stadium’s concessionaire has since responded to the controversy created by the video. All beers sold today will cost $7.25.

Seriously though, the least they can do is give you what you paid for. If you are paying extra for extra beer, shouldn't you get extra beer?

Yea... I got turned off to the NFL when they decided to become welfare queens and have us pay for their stadiums. Of course, the average NFL player having a rap sheet a mile long didn't help much either.

I watched the game at home and drank $50 worth of Mich Golden Light (at their prices).

And everyone else! The last time I rented a car in Seattle, there was a 20% tax on the tab for the stadium. Stick it to the visitors, they won’t notice.

This is more of a VENDOR problem opposed to a NFL problem. The NFL provides the team, the city provides the venue and subcontracts out the food service. It is the food service vendor that you should be more pissed off at. Now, granted, I know that the food service vendor eventually pays the NFL for the right to sell their over priced wares, but the NFL does not set the price. If the vendor did this intentionally then they need to be punished - possibly lose their contract. What they are accused of doing is plain unethical and wrong. There are plenty of other food service vendors that would love to bid for that gig.
What you are seeing is good ole market driven economics - which is something that we all preach on this website. In this example if 60,000 fans keep purchasing $8 beers the vendor will raise the price to $8.50 to see if there is any drop off in sales. The solution is quite simple, if you don’t want to buy a $8 beer, don’t or better yet, get “preflighted in the parking lot”. Besides tailgating is fun, cheaper and you get to meet some really good fans that way. What needs to be done is look at the bottom of each cup in question. The capicity is stamped on there for you to see, so if really could be a simple mistake (two different size cups that hold the same amount of product).
You are also being shown one of the oldest marketing tricks in the book. Reduce the amount of product but leave the price the same, or in this case raise it. If you don’t believe me, look at the size of what used to be a half gallon of icecream, it is now 1.5 quarts. A 12 oz bag of chips is now 10.5 ounces.

You can argue that they don't HAVE to pay for beer and just do without, and you would be particularly correct. However, most people got to drink something in the 4 hours it takes to play the game and get out of the stadium. And coke and bottled water are similarly overpriced.
$8.00 beer is NOT an example of market forces, just the opposite in fact. It is the result of a monopoly in a closed environment.

You are correct in that it is a “closed environment” with a captive consumer base. I do go without, as paying $8 for a beer is “not in my budget” and is just plain crazy.
I still say that it is market forces that prevail. The only way to prove this would be that NO FOOD OR DRINK be sold during a game - 100% consumer boycot. I would be willing to bet the farm that the prices would come down if that were to happen - 100% consumer boycott will never happen so prices will stay where there are or climb.
People never complain as the price goes up a quarter every year but pitch a fit when they go up a dollar every four.
