The Great Lone Star Migration (Today, 1 of 12 Americans live in Texas. Will the trend continue?)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 01/09/2011 | Michael Barone

Posted on 01/09/2011 10:29:31 AM PST by SeekAndFind

After the initial results of the 2010 Census were released before Christmas, commentators focused on their short-term political effects and demographic implications. Many noted the six House seats and electoral votes that will be reapportioned to states carried by John McCain from states carried by Barack Obama. Others noted that California, for the first time since it was admitted to the Union in 1850, gained no new seats.

The comparison tells us much about the country's present—and the shape of the future.

SNIP

The population of the Pacific states including Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii tripled—up 208%—in 1930-70. But growth has since slowed. High taxes and slow-growth policies that raised housing prices are one reason. Latino immigrants have been streaming in but almost as many native-born have been moving out. The Pacific states grew 88% in 1970-2010, well above the national average, but far slower than in 1930-70 and slower than the South Atlantic states, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

SNIP

Back in the 1930-70 period, liberal political scientists hoped and expected that America would become less like Texas and more like New York, with bigger government, higher taxes and more unions. In one important respect—the abolition of legally enforced racial segregation—that has happened. But otherwise Americans have been voting with their feet for the Texas model, with its low tax rates, light regulation and openness to new businesses and enterprises.

Today one out of 12 Americans lives in Texas—the same proportion that lived in New York City in 1930. Metropolitan Dallas and metropolitan Houston, with about six million people each, threaten to overtake our fourth largest metro area, San Francisco Bay (population about seven million), in the next decade.

Texans must insure that these migrants assimulate and leave their liberal bull**** back where they came from.

“Texans must insure that these migrants assimulate and leave their liberal bull**** back where they came from.”

That is our biggest fear from the influx. We don’t want to become another California or New York.

God Bless Texas!

I hope not.

What we need to do is export liberals through a Resident Exchange Program.

Heard someone about a week ago claim that EVERYONE on the planet can fit in an area the same size as Texas and live the same as those in New York City. Good luck with all that!

“Texans must insure that these migrants assimulate and leave their liberal bull**** back where they came from.”

Yeah, I wish ‘em luck with that. California gave the country Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Proposition 13. But just look at the horrific changes to the state in just my lifetime. Between the millions of liberals from all over the country importing their nonsense (e.g., to the entertainment industry) to the millions of illegal alien colonizers from a failed socialist state, we never had a chance.

I wonder what Texans think they can do differently to avoid what happened to the Golden State.

It's true. Everyone on the planet could fit into individual living spaces of approximately 1100 sf inside Texas.

Of course that is unrealistic. Assume marriages and apartment buildings and it would be less than 1100 sf for every two (2) people on the planet. Amazingly enough that would leave room in Texas for highways, supermarkets, recreation, etc.

Don't forget that also leaves the rest of North American (the other continental states, Canada, Mexico, Alaska) for exploration etc as well as South America, Africa, Europe, India, China, Australia, etc ...

Over population, like AGW is a myth.

I have great fear for you, Austin used to be a lovely town (50+ years ago) and now look at it. I could cry when I, accidently, turn on Austin City Limits. I don’t know what it is but it sure isn’t the country music that used to be.

Texas won't be needing any migration, as illegal aliens are having 1000 babies per month at just one single hospital in Texas....(Dallas Parkland)

That's about 12,000 per year, at just one single hospital...

HELL IN TEXAS ANON Circa 1835

The devil, we’re told, in hell was chained,
And a thousand years he there remained,
And he never complained, nor did he groan,
But determined to start a hell of his own
Where he could torment the souls of men
Without being chained to a prison pen.

So he asked the Lord if He had on hand
Anything left when He made the land.
The Lord said, “Yes, I had plenty on hand,
But I left it down on the Rio Grande.
The fact is old boy, the stuff is so poor,
I don’t think you could use it in hell any more.”

But the devil went down to look at the truck,
And said if it came as a gift, he was stuck;
For after examining it careful and well
He concluded the place was too dry for hell.
So in order to get it off His hands
God promised the devil to water the lands.

For he had some water, or rather some dregs,
A regular cathartic that smelt like bad eggs.
Hence the deal was closed and the deed was given,
And the Lord went back to His place in Heaven.
and the devil said, “I have all that is needed
To make a good hell,” and thus he succeeded.

He began to put thorns on all the trees,
And he mixed the sand with millions of fleas,
He scattered tarantulas along all the roads,
Put thorns on the cacti and horns on the toads;
He lengthened the horns of the Texas steers
And put an addition on jack rabbits’ ears.

He put little devils in the broncho steed
And poisoned the feet of the centipede.
The rattlesnake bites you, the scorpion stings,
The mosquito delights you by buzzing his wings.
The sand burrs prevail, so do the ants,
And those that sit down need half soles on their pants.

The devil then said that throughout the land
He’d manage to keep up the devil’s own brand,
And all would be mavericks unless they bore
The marks of scratches and bites by the score.
The heat in the summer is a hundred and ten,
Too hot for the devil and too hot for men.

The wild boar roams through the black chaparral,
It’s a hell of a place he has for a hell;
The red pepper grows by the bank of the brook,
The Mexicans use it in all that they cook.
Just dine with a Mexican and then you will shout,
“I’ve a hell on the inside as well as without.”

I used to watch Austin City Limits long ago, the first show I remember watching featured Gatemouth Brown and Vassar Clements, they performed separately and then took the stage together at the end. It was amazing, I watched many nights after that but for many years now if I turn it on I watch for two minutes and wind up shaking my head with a sick feeling as I turn it off. Ray Price is still performing but he would never be on ACL, country music is as dead as the culture that first produced it. I am old enough to remember Hank Sr., Ernest Tubb, Lefty, Ray Price when Crazy Arms was a brand new hit, there ain’t no mo’ real country.
