We will know.
This is how the mur derous slaughter in Tucson differs from the Virginia Tech and Columbine massacres. The killers in those cases were dead by the time they ended, and their suicides ensured we would never be able to get to the bottom of them -- what combination of their own genes, upbringing and cultural influences led these monsters to such bottomless evil.
But Jared Loughner isn't dead. His apprehension means we will eventually have a definitive explanation for this act -- that it won't be left to ideologically interested parties to stitch together a politically convenient explanation from a diary entry, a MySpace page, a YouTube video and the recollections of classmates who barely knew him.
That matters. Knowing what had been at work in the case of the Beltway snipers in 2002 made a difference in getting the DC area back to normal.
As in that case, we will know. Alas, that fact is insufficient or unsatisfying for the chattering classes. Our compulsive hunger always to know first, speak first and decide first has only been amplified by the fact that we can now all participate instantly in a virtual version of a national cocktail-party conversation on Twitter, Facebook and blogs.
We must say something, even when we know nothing. So, in the guise of sober moralism, we have been told by self-satisfied solons on the Web sites of the Atlantic and The New Yorker that the possible root of Loughner's crime can be found, say, among those who've dared to use the word "socialist" to describe Barack Obama's policies.

They will try to blame “both” sides. Truth is....the right was playing defense on withering liberal insantity attacks.
In the end, Lougher is mentally unstable. This fact will be used to bring about a bipartisan suspension of the second amendment for the mentally ill (who could disagree with that, right)?
..and then, the definition of those who are mentally ill will slowly expand.
Think homosexuality is immoral? Why, you’re insane.
Think the fair tax should replace the progressive tax structure? Why, you’re insane.
Believer in small government? That’s insane, haven’t you seen the threats we face?

Let the leftists engage in their finger pointing. I’m done apologizing to them - for anything.

Maybe and maybe not. The shit may decide to never say anything. Then again he could run at the mouth for days but in the end people with 2 brain cells or more will still not understand why he did this...........
I don’t think I would trust anything this guy says. Society is his enemy. His words will likely be weapons directed against that enemy. I wish his apprehension had turned out differently frankly.
To be a hero all he has to do is say what pleases the LEFT_WING MEDIA.
We have secured major victories recently with regards to the second ammendment and we are in a strong position to defend that right now. They will certainly go after our second ammendemnt rights as well as our first ammendment rights as well as our right to privacy. For the most part, however, I think they will be throwing themelves up against a wall but that may be enough to blunt our political momentum. One thing is for sure, the focus has shifted for better or worse.
“the definition of those who are mentally ill will slowly expand.”
Sure would. That was the Soviets’ favorite trick for suppressing dissent.
I can’t wait to find out what kind of defewnse his lawyer-—who once represented “Unibomber” Ted Kaczynski-—will present.
This guy is kidding right?
We are going to interview this nutbag and then we will know why nutbags lose it and kill?
Rots O’Ruck.
Regardless of the shooters intents, it’s always going to be a right wing blame if guns are involved.
If it was an illegal immigrant on drugs, who drove himself to the shooting while drinking and used a gun he brought in from Mexico that was provided by a drug cartel and not one brought down from the US with the specific purpose of assassinating anyone it would be blamed on the right or Tea Party unless of course it was a conservative that was the target and then it wouldn’t make the news.

We used to lock up the insane to prevent such tragedy. This is an indictment of the system. This guy was seen repeatedly as a very disturbed individual and those observations are on the record.
I've got news for you. We already are an occupied nation. There are para-military units of a Mexican drug cartel occupying hundreds of square miles of U.S territory in Arizona and in other states as well, within striking distance of a U.S. Air Force base. State law enforcement agencies are powerless against them and have been ordered not to engage because the cartel's troops are better equipped and better trained than our border patrol. Yet the only response "Americans" have had thus far has been to erect signs warning themselves (!) to stay out of the occupied areas. Oh, and don't forget, the U.S. Congress gave Calderon, the President of Mexico, a bi-partisan standing ovation when he last stood before that august body and proceeded to trash Arizona's SB1070 as "racist" law.
Sort of reminds me of the millions of Jews who stayed behind in Austria clinging to a ridiculous faith in normalcy, despite the news about Hitler's Third Reich and what it was doing in their country right in front of them. Around 400,000 got the message, packed their belongings and got out in time. The rest didn't.
Exactly!
Nurse Ratched time!
I think it was under Carter that we first began to encounter “crazies” walking the streets of America’s larger cities, ranting and raving and accosting the populace. IIRC the rationalization was the development of several new drugs which were supposed to control aberrant behavior and save taxpayers dollars since there was supposedly no longer a need to house clothe and feed these maniacs in what used to be called “insane asylums”. So the Democrats turned the neighborhoods and streets of America into one giant Petri dish. We haven’t looked back since.

Nope not necessarily.
If he pleads guilty and accepts any sentence handed out he doesn't have to say squat, or give any 'explanation'. But that prolly won't even happen. His lawyer will demand a psych evaluation and that's that - locked up in a loony bin until he 'gets better'. No trial, no nothing.
an aside: Dollars to donuts that's why he failed the Army entrance exam. He failed the psych eval part.
He failed a drug test.
I agree with you and I have done everything that I can to stop that situation... in time and money donated. It sickens me to no end.
