(Idiot) Bloomberg slams lax laws that helped Arizona killer Jared Lee Loughner get firearm
NY Daily News ^ | 1/10/2011 | BY Erin Einhorn and Dave Goldiner

Buying the firearm used in the Arizona massacre was easy as pie for accused gunman Jared Lee Loughner, whose rampage is sparking a new debate over gun control.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced the 9-mm. Glock, serial number PWL 699, to a Sportsman's Warehouse in Tucson and confirmed - by store video and receipts - that Loughner bought it on Nov. 30.

Loughner passed an instant background check despite a drug arrest and history of erratic behavior. And thanks to a new law signed by Arizona Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, whose state has some of the loosest gun laws, Loughner was able to conceal it and carry it without a permit.

The law didn't fail, the existing laws weren't enforced.

13-3101. Definitions 7. “Prohibited possessor” means any person: (a) Who has been found to constitute a danger to himself or to others or to be persistently or acutely disabled or gravely disabled pursuant to court order under section 36-540, and whose right to possess a firearm has not been restored pursuant to section 13-925.

If a man isn’t sane enough to buy a gun then he’s not sane enough to be roaming the streets.

Usual MSM slam at the RTC law.

In AZ, they worked just fine. Anyway, if Loughner was set on killing Giffords, no law on the books would have stopped him.

Bloomberg is an asshat.

If the sheriff had done his job and reported the suspect to the courts, because he made previous threats, then the current law would have kept him from getting a gun legally.

Rather than blather on about guns, why doesn’t the Mayor send someone to my apartment door which is blocked with huge bags of garbage ripped open by homeless men looking for cans and bottles and rats looking for a decent meal.

Yeah, if that law hadn't passed, he wouldn't have been able to do the shooting. He could have never put that gun in his pocket because that would have been against the law.

Save us, Master Bloomberg, give us more laws!

Once again, political correctness, in my view raises it’s ugly head. The shooter was a known danger, at least to others, and was threatening to those who found themselves in his environment. His problems were brought to the attention of those in authority but they did nothing to protect society. This is a failure in our current system. When I was young, a person like this would have been institutionalized.

The new law had nothing to do with Loughner's ability to conceal and carry without a permit. The streets of New Yorka nd Chicago are filled with thugs who conceala nd carry without a permit.

I’m awaiting for Bloomberg to tell us if his Bedbug Taskforce has eliminated the little bloodsuckers from Gotham.

Then he can lecture us about the evils of guns.

He bought the gun legally.

That in and of itself is not a crime in AZ the last time I checked.

That barb proves nothing about gun control.

Correct, the sheriff and the local prosecutor caused this, the knew the nuts mother and agreed to an alternative sentence and expungment for the drugs case. Because of that there was no conviction on his record.

If she had signed a conceal carry permit law he would have had to hide it.

Never mind, he did hide it. /sarc

Now here we have a guy that if the local law enforcement agency did their job would have denied this killer the right to purchase that Glock in the first place since he was known to have a history of mental issues.

Put the blame where it belongs,On the local Sheriff’s Dept, since they’re the ones who screwed up.

Mayor Bloomberge is forever stirring the anti-gun pot.You can be damn sure he has a paid security detail wherever he go’s.Unfortunately most of us working slobs can’t afford it so we need to provide our own security.

The suspect had already made previous threats which under existing law should have prevented him from getting a gun if the sheriff had done his job.

Exactly. There have been many accidents in the past year alone in which an illegal immigrant, driving without a license and while under the influence of alcohol was involved in an accident in which an innocent person died. Is that because our laws about driving are too lax? Is it because we don’t have laws about illegal immigration? No. It’s because the existing laws aren’t followed, are difficult to enforce, or just plain aren’t enforced. Don’t blame Brewer for this guy having a gun. That’s ridiculous.
