Arizona Sheriff Clarence Dupnik refuses to enforce state's new 'racist' immigration law
NY Daily News ^ | 29 April 2010 | Edgar Sandoval

"Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnick kept his mouth shut during the great Arizona debate on locking up undocumented aliens.

"Come August, when his 500 deputies become responsible for busting illegals, the sheriff's actions will speak louder than any words: His men will look the other way.

"'We are not immigration officials,' Dupnick vowed Thursday. 'We fight crime. The state put us in this position.'"

. . .

"Dupnick said he never joined the contentious debate over the controversial bill because he didn't expect Gov. Jan Brewer or state legislators to approve it.

"'This law, it's just irresponsible,' he said. 'It makes them [legislators] look like racists.'"

It is obvious the sheriff has a political agenda! I'm sure it had nothing to do with his statements blaming conservatives for the Arizona shootings.

Does the Governor have the power to send this POS packing?

"Does the Governor have the power to send this POS packing?"

Since he's elected, he would have to be recalled. That would require a recall petition and a lot of other legal steps. It can happen though. Remember California's governor a few years ago?

The Sheriff is an idiot. Shame on him for being so irresponsible. I question whether he and his department will conduct a proper and thorough investigation. I’m glad the FBI is involved.

Refusing to enforce the law? Is that the oath a Sheriff takes?

The most frightening thing ever a citizen sees, should be law enforcement, deciding which laws it will enforce. Cops have no right to supersede the legislature. That’s the very definition of a police state.

Could he not be sued for failing to fulfill responsibilities of his office? Making overt statements that he will not perfome duties mandated by law?

It appears that he may want to make more room in the jails for Tea Partiers.

When is he up for re-election?

I believe in 2012. He's in his early 70s and has held this position since 1980.

Time for him to go.

“Does the Governor have the power to send this POS packing?”

NO! She is the Governor not the Queen.
However I wonder if Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnick’s picking and choosing which laws he and his department will enforce constitutes a violation of his oath of office.

I also wonder if the citizens of Pinal county are paying the price for Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnick’s refusal to enforce Arizona law. SB1070.
A press release from the Pinal County sheriff's Dept dated
January 5 2011 states the following:
Pounds of Seized Marijuana
2007 28,093
2008 19,619
2009 44,963
2010 44,819
Pursuits
2007 142
2008 140
2009 289
2010 335
Calls to U.S. Border Patrol
2007 188
2008 169
2009 270

Dupnik is not qualified to be sheriff. Does he not have to give an oath to uphold the law, not just those he likes? His comment on the shooting were to get his face on TV to push his agenda. A loser.

May I suggest we now have a ‘Dumbnik (Miranda) Rights’law, to be read to every conservative who is about to speak anywhere on any subject. It will read like this.....

You have a right to remain silent about the corruption, hypocrisy, and hate of the democrat party. Your words will be taken out of context, denied, twisted and referred to by our thug friends in the news media as a cause to murder. This will be used over and over against you.

Your entire life will be examined from your birth certificate(long form) to all your writings, travels (all 57 states and overseas)speeches, mentors and friends.

If you are bankrupt paying taxes and you request a lawyer one will be provided by the ACLU!

Easier (and safer) to write parking tickets and hang around Dunkin’ Donuts than arrest illegal aliens and take psychotic maniacs to mental hospitals.

Seems we now all have free reign to ignore any laws in his county that we feel are irresponsible.

Works for me. It would be an interesting case against a LEO who makes up his own set of laws to obey or ignore.

One more POS in the ruling class that needs to have the constitution shoved down his throat.
